Making Xbmc Default Dash
« on: May 22, 2004, 05:38:00 AM »

Could someone point in the direction of the tut on how to make XBMC the default dash?

Also, would this it be better to make it the default dash before or after i change out the harddrive, I feel that doing it before would be better, but not completely sure?

Thanks in Advance.

Well, yes....

The problem is that when I have my mod chip on, it does not seem to get an IP addy, how am i to ftp the files over to the XBOX if it cant get an IP?  I am still using the original dash as of now.  Should i change to evoX or something like that before i can go to XBMC as the default dash or can change directly?

Depending on your Modchip / BIOS AFAIK you can choose a boot order to have multiple dashboards installed.

Mine is quite old, so I renamed  xboxdash.xbe to evoxdash.xbe - for backup-reasons -, copied default.xbe from xbmc to c: and renamed it to xboxdash.xbe. Don't forget to copy XboxMediaCenter.xml to c: and edit it to point to the direction where your xbmc-directory resides. Remeber to always have the same XboxMediaCenter.xml in your xbmc-directoy!

Important: don't forget to enter your network-settings. When using EvoX as dash this is not necessary as xbmc retrieves this information from there.

Now everything should be set. For security-reasons I recommend to have a bootable EvoX-CD/DVD handy if anything goes wrong.

Also, it seems XBMC installs with FTP disabed. Go to settings and enable FTP.

This is how I set it up. I have my xbmc map on E:\apps\xbmc and then I have renamde the defautl.xbe to xbmc.xbe and moved it and the XboxMediaCenter.xml to c:\
I then edited the bios loading order to
1. xbmc.xbe
2. evoXdash.xbe
3. xboxdash.xbe

For xbmc to find the folde for xbmc on the e disc I changed the following line in XboxMediaCenter.xml
<home>-</home>
to
<home>E:\apps\xbmc</home>

It is in the begining.

At home I use fixed ip so I have also these settings changed

 <ipadres>192.169.x.x</ipadres>
 <netmask>255.255.255.0</netmask>
 <defaultgateway>192.168.x.x</defaultgateway>
 <nameserver>x.x.x.x</nameserver>
I have hard coded the DNS for my ISP just to be sure that the xbox gett the DNS.

Good luck
