New Xbox V1.6b ?

I don't know all that much about how the RAMs work on the inside, but I do know that the xbox have got an EEPROM. It's usually called "the EEPROM". Every xbox have one, and on the 1.6-models there where changes to it.

The system reads config from EEPROM on boot. It's very possible that the mem-config is written to it at the same time as the serial, region and HDkey.

Anyway. Even if it is like you say, we should blame it on faulty PSUs, that would be very simple to check. Just switch PSUs between one working 1.6 and one that is crashing.

Of course, that does not explain why Yoshis Beta4 is working on some boxes that crashes on the ordinaly M8_16.

Just modded an 8/04 Xbox today w/ Samsung RAM. I put an Xecuter 2.6 in it. Cromwell came up just fine, but when I flashed it with 4981.61 it fragged. So I took it out and put it in a 1st gen Xbox and it worked fine. Then flashed it with Yoshihiro Beta4 M8 - then put it back on the 8/04 Xbox and it worked fine. Wierd.. I thought it was because if the Hynix RAM (Sorry if I missed something, I'm lazy and don't want to read giant threads)

yeah I'll say you missed something... 4981 works for 1.0-1.5 not 1.6s, 1.6s require either M8_16 or M8_16+

Okay so... I just purchased a Canadian Crystal Edition Xbox (Fable/Crimson Skies) 2004-08-25 and eventually intend on modding it.  I have a fully modded 1.4 Xbox with Executer 2.3 Lite.

I've been reading through this thread and have to admit that I'm confused.  I intend on purchasing the latest rev of the Executer 3 chip and using Yoshihiro Beta4 M8 Bios.

Has anyone had problems with this combination, and/or would anyone recommend a better solution?

I can see the price of less buggy problematic secondhand motherboards and machines going up in value at this rate !

Why go with Yoshiro's Beta4? Use M8+ on your X3, that combo worked fine for my last customer wink.gif

Thanks for the tip.  I'll give that a go.

This is a case of suck it and see. Some people have had lock up problems with the Samsung RAM as well.
Personally i have used the old M8.16 in both types without issues, but I think its a case of if you have the lock up problems with a 1.6 (Whatever the RAM) then the M8+ (16) is very likely to cure the problems, which is great news.

hi all,

I'm experiencing boot problems with a bunch of Crystal boxes here..

date 2004-08-29
Samsung RAM
Toshiba Samsung DVD
brown DVD cable
Aladdin Advance

bad thing is they don't work neither with M8 nor M8+, but depending on the SST used (1 out of 5 or so), sometimes they do. Yes, all the other SSTs are also ok.

any ideas?

thanks,
-daduke

the Aladdin is always on - afaik there's no way to toggle Aladdins on 1.6 boxen (due to changed LAD0 logic)
