I have a Hitachi Drive 079 I believe, flashed with iXtreme 1.4. I know it won't play new games unless it is updated but I had about 30 backups working fine last time I checked. Years ago. BTW the firmware on my 360 is very old. So old that the 360 could be jtagged. But I know all those backups worked with that firmware.

Today I tried some of my backups and some load and others don't. I just get the message saying open tray. For some; it reads the game and says play game.

I remember doing a trick to make all games load. It was something about turning it on, opening the drive and waiting for it to try to read the disc or something like that then close the tray with the game in and turning it off and back on. Something like that but I can't remember.

I don't know if this was specific to the iXtreme firmware or the drive but this really did worked. Does anyone remember this or can someone point me to the instructions?

Things are much different now, you need to update your firmware.

Will updating the firmware to whatever is current right now on iXtreme 1.4 make all those backups that used to work not load anymore?

I do believe that updating the firmware does not affect originals and in fact makes all new games work but does it stop old backups from working if the Xbox is left on an old firmware like iXtreme 1.4?

You will need to update your console and your firmware if you want to play new games.

Try installing games before you play them. That reduces the amount of heat and wear and tear on your dvd drive.
