Backing Up And Playing Games From An External Hard Drive?
« on: July 21, 2010, 04:20:00 PM »

hi all

i am very new to the xbox system, recently purchased a new 360 arcade, and have been given a whole lot of games from a freind. now i have attached an external hard drive to my xbox with all my media files on it but was also wondering if it is possible to load the games that i have onto the hard drive and play then from the hard drive instead of having to change discs all the time and if so how? and also is there anything i can do to get divx and avi movies to work through the xbox?

any help would be greatly appreciated to help me begin to understand how they work

You say you recently purchased your Arcade NEW and this forum post is from July 2010.
That being the case the short answer to playing games from an external hdd is "No".

Longer answer is check the manufacture date on back of console and check the dashboard version.
Any console made after approx May/June 2009 cant play games from external hdd.
Console MUST have dashboard 7371 (USA Fall (Autumn) 2008 updated dash) or less to have any chance of playing games from hdd.
I suspect no one has answered you until now as all information you need is available by doing 15mins research and a couple of Google searches.
