SSv1 and SSv2 refer to the angles between Security Sectors (SS) on original 360 discs. Many believe that all games had the same SS angles up until wave 3.
There are two primary ways 360 games are ripped: either using a Samsung SH-D162 drive with a Kreon firmware, or an original 360 drive with an 0800 firmware.
Kreon drives do not measure the angles. Instead, they apply the same angles to every rip, "jittered" up or down a bit to simulate errors which would be present with retail copies. This is referred to as SSv1.
360 drives with 0800 v1.51 and below measure the angles one time. This is also referred to as SSv1.
360 drives with 0800 v1.6 and up measure the angles twice for verification. This is referred to as SSv2.
This means that any game ripped by an 0800 drive should be safe in this regard, even if SSv1.
In the case that the belief the angles never changed until wave 3 is correct, it means any wave 1 or wave 2 game ripped by Kreon drives should be safe. That belief may or may not be valid, however.
Wave 3 and higher games ripped by Kreon drives are NOT safe.
