Setting Up Dedicated 0800 Drive
« on: January 24, 2010, 10:29:00 AM »

I'm going to buy my self a Samsung MS28 so I have a dedicated ripping drive for my PC, but what I need help with is, I don't know what do with it once I get it. How does it work? I just get a spare SATA cable and stick it in the back of it, then then put the other end in my PC SATA port? What about power? How does it power up without being connected to the 360?

Another thing, does the dedicated drive I buy have to be the same as my Ixtreme LT drive in my 360?

I have just done exactly what you plan on doing. I bought an MS28 drive. You then need to flash the drive with an 0800 firmware (this enables the PC to see the drive and for it to rip the 360 games). Obviously if it is just a dedicated ripping drive, the keys dont matter. Once you have flashed it, you will just need to connect it via a SATA cable into a port in your PC. The best way to power the drive is to use a connectivity kit. I personally use the xecuter CK3. It takes a connection from the 4 pin molar power connectors in your PC and turns it into one that can be used with the 360 drives.

Once your drive is flashed and hooked up to your PC, you should be good to go.

Mini Spy Adapter

Connectivity Kits

I think the links will get you to the same page now that I look at them.

You can look at the chips page for the connectivity kit and the 360 accessory page for the Mini Spy Adapter.

Thanks for the reply,

How do you flash it if your PC can't recognise the drive? So you connect it to the PC via SATA, and for the power, use a connectivity kit. How do you flash it though if it can't be recognised by Windows? lol

Also, which one of these connectivity kits is the best? Firmware Tools

Thanks.

I flashed my drive in iprep (which is a DOS program).

If you take a look at this tutorial created by cofree from robinhoodsplayground.org, it will show you how to flash a spare sammy ms28 drive with the 0800 FW in iprep (i trust this program more than JF, as on my system jungleflasher is prone to freezing)

As for the connectivity kits, I have the CK3 Pro, but the Lite version will do just fine if you are just using it to power the drive.

Thanks for that.

Will any old spare SATA cable work? For connecting to my PC, I mean.

And what about that green cable I see in pictures...like this:

Where do I get that from?

Thank you. Does it come with the CK3 Lite, though?

It probably does come with the power cable. Some come with the SATA cable too. Did you look at the mini spy adapter to keep your drive connected to the PC externally? I really like mine.

Just check the contents listed with the package you are buying.

Hiya Guys.I've got a sammy m25 that i have tried many times with different sammy 0800 fws old and new release and just cannot get pc to find it in device manager.I've been at it on and off for days trying with via drivers for card disabled and enabled (which just freezes pc) and i've just run out of web pages to read and ideas on what to do.
Anyone used a m25 and flashed with the newest 0800 release and got it up and running? if so any chance u can send  link for the 0800 fw your using and definatly a 100% way of getting it to show in devices.mine now shows in jf 1.84 as sammy m28 with ix 1.6 12x after last flash, and its on a pc, os xp.
Also while i'm here,if your not worried about ap 25 games (new 0800 don't do ap 25 anyway) and don't use xbl, and abgx can sort the ss out then is there a prob with rippin non ap 25 with a kreon which i have just sitting round.I could try a rip with the kreon to find out myself, but only got 3 blank verbs and would never play whole game anyway, but it would be nice to know if i did rip with the kreon and run it through abgx just to sort the ss out that it would play entire game if i wanted to.
Cheers guys for any info you give,is all appreciated.
