Hi, I've attempted the 128mb ram upgrade. After several hours of checking for short with a magnifying glass and what not, I have finally got my xbox to boot. Here comes the weird parts. My xbox booted to EvoX dash (v1.8.2594), yeah I know its old, then I loaded XBMC from here, I went to the system nfo and it detect my system has 128mb ram, I was so happy but then as soon as I press then "back" button, xbox frooze. If I try to turn off and turn back on, I don't get any video/audio with a solid green light, but if I unhook the video and power cables and replug, then the xbox would boot again with video/audio, but sometime it frooze at the flubber animation and sometime it can get into the evox dash but as soon as I try to move with the d-pad, it frooze again. I have no idea what to do to fix this, I've check and recheck my soldering and shorts and didn't find any bad joint or short, well otherwise XBMC wouldn't detect the 128mb in the first place. Anyone have any idea what I can do to fix this? I think im running older version X2 bios if that matters. Please help. thanks

update bios, update dashes. most of the junk you're using was before the days of 128mb xboxes. maybe they just don't support the upgrade. maybe try a devkit bios...

I updated my bios to x2 4983 (the latest for x2 I think), I have an x.b.i.t though. Still the same, this time its worse I can't boot to evox anymore so it's useless to upgrade dashboard anyway, it always frooze halfway thru the flubber animation now. Could there be a bad ram in the 4 I have just installed? if so, how can I check? if there is a bad ram, how is it possible that xbmc was able to detects total ram as 128mb at first? Oh I forgot to mention, during my install I accidently desolder two resister but I solder them back where they were, is this what's caused my xbox to have that problem? help please, need some inputs. thanks

man, you probably overheated a chip or resistor. try taking the ram off and see if it works, if not, go for a new mobo. was this your first time doing such a severe operation?

for this particular experiment, yes. but im not a total noob at solder/desolder, i've modded nearly over 200 SD-616T drives, modded several ps2 and xbox as well (wire install). by the way, im sure the two ram chips on the top of the mobo are good, can I just remove the two on the bottom or do I need to remove them all?

well id remove one of your chips, boot and see if it works. if not, remove the othe one you installed. if it still wont work, then you may be up for a new motherboard mate

I wouldn't remove anything just yet.

Add flux, and hit each and every pin one more time with the soldering iron. I'll bet that takes care of it.

Even though your Xbox showed 128MB RAM, there's definitely a short or a cold solder joint somewhere.

I say it is a dry joint or a loose pin... and I think I have more ram upgrade experience then you guys so my vote overrules you lol

Ok, I will try what Perplexer said and see what happend. Now when ever I boot up, it will most likely frooze at the flubber animation. Could it be one of the resistor (or both) I accidently solder gone bad? could it be a dead ram that's caused the problem?

Hi guys, I went over every points with a tiny flat head screw driver held each pin down and touch with the soldering iron. First time booted to evox and loaded xbmc, system nfo show 128mb as before, then frooze, can't get to evox the 2nd time, always frooze at flubber ani. Bad ram? still loose pins? Aaron, you got any more idea? I appreciated you guys inputs by the way. was worth the try but still couldn't fix it.
