Err: Fail To Identify The Flash Type!
« on: October 22, 2004, 09:41:00 PM »

Over the years, I've modded many game consoles.  Recently, I've successfully modded several xboxes and samsung 616 drives.  I bought another SD-616 on eBay, got it yesterday, but cannot seem to flash it.

I crank up MtkWinFlash 1.5.3.6, select my 616,  point it to my SDG605FW.BIN file, and click 'flash drive'.  It says, "initialize device...," but then errors out with this message:

ERR: fail to identify the flash type!

After 2 to 3 full minutes from fist click, It also says something like, 'complete, please restart system.'

Nothing has occured, nothing has actually changed.  I can still use the drive in windows, without a problem.  Windows still sees the drive as a 616, unlike previous drives that I have flashed, which it then saw as 605.  I have tried this with several computers, yielding the same exact results.

Is this simply a version of this drive that will not flash or is there something else that I am missing?

Many thanks in advance, for your help!

I'm off to find a T or F.

I could solder a new set of wings onto a fruit fly, but seems I couldn't turn the drive over and look on the bottom, before posting.
