3 Bad Burns With Verbatim Lightscribe. Bad Type Of Dvd-s
« on: November 02, 2009, 07:53:00 AM »

Few facts first:
My Xbox has Samsung Ms28 drive
flashed with iXtreme 1.6
I'm using Win XP Pro SP2 32bit
ImgBurn 2.5.0.0
DVD burner ASUS DRW-2014L1T (has latest firmware 1.02)

I'm using this media VER-43684 Verbatim - 5 x DVD+R DL - 8.5 GB ( 240min ) 8x - printable surface - LightScribe. Which I bought from HERE. On the box it says its made in Taiwan.

I'm new to Xbox 360 but im not total n00b at least thats how I would like to think  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)  I have successfully hard modded my PS2 and Nintendo Wii before so i can orient in these things more or less. The Xbox 360 is a second hand 3RRoD that I fixed, so I don't know its previous history.

I have burned 3 DVD-s so far. Two of them are not working at all. One of them is kinda working. By that I mean I can play games but every once in a while my Xbox prompts me with cant read disk, please clean it bla bla bla. Before I post my ImgBurn log here, I would like to describe what I have encountered so far. I used abgx to make sure all was OK. Then I launched ImgBurn. Was able to change layer break from settings to 1913760. I was not able to change the book type, but it looks like it doesn't make any difference because it still burns them DVD-ROM regardless. All problems start after the burn process when it tries to verify. Verification failed on all 3 occasions. It always fails with same message
QUOTE
Failed to Read Sector 1913760 - Reason: No Seek Complete
or something like that, cant remember exactly. And then it offers to try again. If tried again it prompt me with next bit like
QUOTE
Failed to Read Sector 1913761 - Reason: No Seek Complete

Tried it like 5 times before canceled. Like I said one of them actually works, but occasionally throws me clean your disk error. Second one gets to first screen which ironically explains about that no modifications or copies should be made of this game etc. Third one just stays on black screen and nothing happens.

I will give my log file of ImgBurn. Will change font of important parts for anyones convenience.

My gut feeling tells me that these LightScribe Verbatims might not be the best ones for the task. Or could it be something else like my burner? I do not have access to any other DVD burner at the moment to try. As far as it concerns to try different media it sucks for me as the only available media that I could buy retail are the Maxell ones that they sell in Argos (link to them is here) Thats because I live in small town like Torquay where there I guess isn't much demand for DL dvd-s. No other retailer sells any DL DVD-s. And those Maxells cost £17.79 and thats only a 5 pack  :? So therefore I always order online.

So does anyone think it might be the media? If yes, then I need recommendations to a specific DVD-s to go with. I cant be asked to order and wait again and then be disappointed. I need DVD-s that wont fail me. That is if its because bad media to begin with.

Sincerely
Janx4u
