Scratched Backups - New Burner / Media?
« on: February 03, 2020, 08:31:00 AM »

Hey Guys,

I'm new to the whole backup scene and i've got a few questions i'd like to ask.

I made a backup of my fifa 06 the other day onto an Aone Premium disc (i know, cheap shitty media.. but i didn't want to dish out £20 on a pack of verbs for me to waste on not knowing how to do the whole process! (turns out it was a good idea as i wasted over 6 of the bloody things!)

I ran into a few problems with my Liteon burner, it's quite old now and it would burn the games but the xbox 360 would only be able to identify the game in the dashboard, but as soon as i went to play it.. i would get "this disc is unreadable".

I solved this by burning the image with my laptop, but i'd ideally want to buy a seperate burner for my computer.

I've read everywhere on here that pretty much any new burner is capable of producing working backups, but does anybody have any suggestions through their own success?

Also, the aone disks i've burned with my laptop keep getting scartched.. it almost sounds asif the laser is making contact with the disk (a pretty horrible noise!) I was getting the disk spinning whilst ejecting and the horrible grinding noise.. but i fixed that the other day by opening up the dvd drives and lubing up the moving parts with some oil.. PROBLEM FIXED. i flipped the disk over after a few hours of gameplay, under a light and to my surprised it was covered in thin circular motion scratches. - I don't know, but i presume that the media is so crappy that the laser's having something to do with it?!

So does anybody have any suggestions for a burner & new media?! I know everybody worships the ground of verbatims, but i can't really afford to be dishing out £20 for a 15 pack or whatever it is! I'm sure there has to be a cheaper but acceptable quality substitute?

Cheers guys.

as far as verbatim goes, you can find some decent prices on newegg and netsoftmedia.  I use 2.4x verbs and burn them easily at 4x on my 116c pioneer burner
