Just Replaced Hitachi Drive With Benq
« on: September 25, 2009, 11:21:00 PM »

Successfully spoofed the Benq as a hitachi drive, dvd key and all. FW is ix1.6 benq
Prior to the hitachi dying on me, I was able to read discs fine.
Now, I insert a backup copy, it spins up and recognizes that it's a game, comes up with the title and all.
When I go to play, it boots the game, then stops reading it, forcing me to go back to the dash.
I tried to install it (in this case, tried rock band beatles and NHL10) to the hard drive, and it gets about 1-3% done before telling me the disc may be dirty or scratched.  I'm using cheap media from Microcenter, that may be part of it, but it worked fine on the hitachi drive.

Is this a problem with the media, or something with the drive? Originals seem to be fine, but the backups... not so much.

Admins... if I'm posting in the wrong place, please forgive me and feel free to move it to the proper forum.

Shut 'er down... bought some verbatims, burned a copy of nhl10, then everything ran fine. Chalk it up to substandard media...  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Memorex seem work well on the benq drives as well, but I wouldn't go any cheaper than that.
