Has Anyone Tried These Maxell Dvd+r Dl Discs?
« on: September 11, 2009, 10:37:00 PM »

These discs are a new item on Newegg, and I was wondering if anyone has tried them yet. Only 3 positive reviews on there so far, one guy says they work for 360 backups. They seem to be a better deal than Verbatims. Less than $1 per disc!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817287016

I have a Hitachi 47 dj drive flashed to iXtreme 1.51.

I know Hitachi drives are picky with media, so I thought I'd ask first...

IF you're looking for CRAP cheap disks, memorex are 50 for $30 all the time at buy.com.
HOWEVER, verbatims are only 1.20 a disk normally and are always perfection.

Yeah, I've used Memorex DL discs before, but not on a Hitachi drive. Do you know if they work on all 360 drives?

I bought a 25 pack of TDK DL discs on Newegg, and they didn't work on my Hitachi (they recently switched disc manufacturers).

I just want to find a good deal on discs that I know will work on my drive.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif)

Is there a way for me to switch my Hitachi drive with another (BenQ or Lite On) without being banned from Xbox Live?

Maxwell uses Verbatim's in some rare cases, however, most are likely Ritek or Ricoh.
The Verbatim's rebranded as Maxwells are mostly in jewel cases (reports have shown)

Ritek and Ricoh DL disks are utter crap.

Vinpower, eh. I can't find a report of the media identifier code that these are.  However, newegg report says crap. Most likely these are re-branded disks of lower quality, however, without proper testing I cannot say that for certain.

I don't understand why you (people) look to save that extra 15 cents a dvd.

If you don't spend the money now on the discs, you will later when needing a new laser/drive.

I just don't like using a marker to label my dvds.

I have a thermal disc printer that I use (Casio CW-K85 - link), and it needs a blank surface on the bottom part of the disc to work.

Verbatim discs are covered with lines and text.

If it wasn't for that, I'd have no problem buying Verbatim dual layer discs.

It would be even better if I could find a white printable or lightscribe dvd that was good quality.

If I replace my Hitachi drive, I'll probably get these RiDATA printable dvds:
RiDATA 8.5GB 2.4X DVD+R DL White Inkjet Printable 25 Packs Cake Box Dual Layer Disc

Yeah, I just bought a 25 pack of Sony DL discs. They have a nice blank surface on the bottom, but I get the open tray error maybe 1 out of 5 times in the xbox.... just keep ejecting the drive, and it eventually works.

I've seen the rubber band mod for Hitachis, and it didn't seem to work for me, maybe I'll try it again.
