I got my 360 updated to fw iX 1.6 today. But one feature i dont fully understand is the one-shot-boot and the activate.iso thing

If i want to play one of my older games, like a wave one game (gears of war 1), that i still have the same copy from when i used Xtreme, will it not boot? Then will i have to use the activate.iso disk?

if not, can someone give me an idea of when i should/need to use that activate.iso disk?


and can someone point me to where i can download the activate.iso?

As long as the games are stealth patched, they'll boot on ix1.6 - as in, if your GOW worked on ix1.4/1.5, it will still work on 1.6 - activate.iso is only for booting games that otherwise would not boot on ixtreme firmwares, or "hybrid" discs.

Hi i have a couple of patched wave 3 games i made waiting for the ix1.6 to come out. These will not boot now. Could someone help me out. What do i have to do in order to play the unsafe backups i have?

re-rip the original, and use that.

chorizo1 gave you the best option for sure.

But if you, for some weirdo reason, still wanna to load an unsafe backup, try this (taken from iXtreme 1.6 readme.txt file):

-One shot boot mode! - allows a one off boot of gamedisc without -stealth/partition checks (will still use stealth), use activate.iso disk to activate each time!

When you download the iXtreme 1.6 , any drive version, it comes with activate.iso to burn.

OK just found the answer in another thread. (sorry but this site has a lot going on and theads hide themselfs good.)

so i need to burn the activate.iso using clonecd to a DL+R

Found these instructions on a RapidWorldz page.  DON'T Google it, as the site will hammer your PC with popups, Java ads and will try to install a trojan.

This will show you how to burn the ISO using ImgBurn instead of having to buy CloneCD.

Couldn’t find any real info on this but through trial and error I’ve finally figured it out!!!

These instructions were made using Imgburn!!!

Activate.iso is designed to enable One-shot boot mode for the iXtreme 1.6 firmware. One-shot boot mode allows you to boot your unstealthed, modified or “Hybrid” backups without any strict stealth checks!!!!

PLEASE NOTE!!! DOES NOT BOOT UNSTEALTHED XBOX 1 BACKUPS!!!! I was really hoping it would….


1: You need your Activate.iso file! should have come with any version of iXtreme 1.6. download one of those to get Activate.iso.

2: Once you have the activate.iso file, you wanna drag and drop or save it to your desktop.

3: Insert a DVD+R DL into your dvd burner.

4: Now open up Activate.iso with any burning software you use. (I.E. Imgburn, Clonecd, etc… I personally use Imgburn… )

5: Now in your burning program go into your write setting tab and make sure your layerbreak is set to the Calculate Optimal setting. Also check your booktype for DVD+R DL and make sure its on the DVD-ROM setting and that your write speed is at 2.4x.

6: Start Burn!

7: As soon as the burn starts a message will pop saying, “that the image is small enough for a regular DVD R, do you want to continue anyway?”
(You wanna choose yes because burned to a regular DVDR the Activate.iso wont work!!!)

8: Next another message will pop saying, “even though the image is small enough to fit into one layer its best to write in both layers, do wou wanna go away from the norm and write in only one layer?” (Now I wanna stress…READ THIS MESSAGE CAREFULLY!!!!)

Choosing “Yes” will cause all data to be wrttin into the first layer.

Choosing “No” will cause data to be writing into both layers.

CHOOSE NO!!

9: It will burn then finish…

10: Insert the Activate.iso disk into your xbox 360. It will read for a little longer than usual then finally it will say “Play DVD”. Press “A” on your controller and a video should pop saying, “Play this disk in an xbox 360 console“.
This is how you know you’ve burned the iso sucessfully!!

11: Now just eject the Activate.iso disk and insert your unstealthed, modified or Hybrid disk and it will load!!!

I have done this. Set the layer break to optimal, clicked No when asked if I want to burn to L0 only. The disk loads to the 'play this dvd in an xbox' but when I eject the disk and put in Lips no1 hits (wave 4) I am getting a full white Xbox 360 logo and the game isn't loading. Now the game has been tested on a hitachi 1.51 and works. Just wondering how I can be going wrong. I have 1.6 firmware brand new system Liteon drive which reads anything. Help please.

The tutorial posted above is WRONG!!! When IMGburn asks if you want to burn to a single layer you have to press YES!!.  Don't try and burn it to both layers it won't work.

The abgx360 team posted an update yesterday clarifying iXtreme 1.51 compatibility with wave4. It turns out that only Hitachi drives on 1.51 will boot wave4 due to a change in PFI. For now, the only option for Samsung, BenQ and Lite-On owners to boot wave4 is to use the "one shot" 0800 disc mode with iXtreme 1.6.


Users with firmware 1.6 will have to use Active iso
Step #1 Download Active iso


Step #2
Once you have the activate.iso downloaded
You now have to burn to DVD DL. Do not use CD-r or Dvd-r Xbox 360 will not recognize them. To burn the image i suggest Imgburn.

Step #3
If you use Imgburn you set have to set the layerbreak to optimal by going to
Tools --> Settings... --> Write -->
Optimal is in the right top corner.

Step #4
Burn at 2.4x

Step #5
IMGburn will bring now bring to your attention that activate.iso is small enough to fit a DVD5 or (DVD +/-/R)
Ignore it and continue burning on a dual layer. Click Yes

Step #6
Imgburn will now ask if you would like to write the image on one layer. The image is small enough to fit on one layer.
Click yes

Step #7
Once the disc is made put the disc into your xbox360. Let it read, after a while it will say Play DVD.
Press A on your controller and you should get a message saying to play this game please insert in an
xbox360 console. You can now eject it.

Step #8
Next insert your wave 4 game. There you have it.

Just a quick note you have to put this disc in everytime you play a 4th wave game.

srry for the noob question...but...i have 1.51 ixtreme. in order to play safely on xbox live, do i have to update to 1.6 and use this method with activate.iso?

i followed the sequence to burn activate.iso but comes up play this disc in xbox 360 then put game in and comes up white screen with xbox 360 can anyone help !!

Wich sequence you tryed? The first (wrong) or the second one posted by ITSMEDAVID?

AFter the movie is burnt and it plays a movie and tells me to insert the disk into a 360, I hit eject and it dumps me back to the desktop.

Any ideas?
