Backup With Wxripper - Error Question
« on: March 30, 2009, 08:41:00 PM »

Hi,  I am trying to use wxRipper ver1.2 via the hotswap method to backup some games of mine.  After swapping out a near 8gig movie DVD and inserting my game, I get an error after clicking "find the magic number".

The error:
(IMG:http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/7830/errordiy.jpg)

After extensive searching, I still can't find a clear consensus on what this error means.  Some say that it is a .NET 2.0 error and other state that it's a problem with Vista.

Should I partition space on my HDD and try wxRipper with XP?  Would it be a problem with my DVD-burner or perhaps not a large enough initial DVD (I used a 7.5gig movie).  Maybe I need to install different drivers for my DVD-burner?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

[Edit]
Some more information - I have:

ATAPI DVD DH16A6S internal super-multi DVD+-R DL burner,
Windows Home Premium 64 bit
Plenty of HDD space (ntfs)

Need anything else as far as information let me know - Thanks.

You may want to use a 32 bit version of windows. My experience with WXRipper and Windows XP 64 or Vista 64 did not play well with each other.

Thanks for the reply.  I'm installing VMware now, then going to install Windows XP.  I'll let you know if everything works out.

Also, one more thing I've noticed...Is when I eject my DVD-tray with a paper clip, my computer automatically wants to spin the drive.  As soon as I push the tray back in, whatever disc is in the tray gets read instantly.  Am I ejecting the tray incorrectly, or maybe a function of my computer/dvd-drive?

Are you hitting stop in wxRipper before you eject it with the paper clip (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)?

Yes.  I can hear the drive stop, although the moment I eject it I can hear the drive starting up again.  Perhaps that's just how the drive is.

Also, after installing Windows XP and running the program there, I am still getting the Unhandled Exception Error.  I'm seriously considering picking up a new DVD drive if I can't find a solution that works.

Can anyone recommend a proper internal DVD/combo drive that would be suitable for this sort of thing?

Get a Kreon Flashed Drive. you insert 360 game, use XBC to make iso then burn. easy.

Wxripper method will NOT get you a working backup without having to illegally obtain certain files, that cannot be discussed here.
