Need Some Overall Guidance
« on: February 19, 2009, 06:57:00 PM »

Hey everyone,

I'm a newcomer here, but I want to give a big thanks to everyone. This site has helped immensely!

Here's a quick technical run down, hopefully this will give you a better idea of what I'm struggling with.
  • Slax 2.1 set Xbox Hitachi 59DJ drive into mode B, boot into windows vista 32 ultimate (drive recognized)
  • Drive flashed using iXtreme 1.4 All Versions. Went through the motions, reported back everything went properly and stated I could shut down my machine (method using sata to sata, motherboard is P35)
  • This probably doesn't have any impact but I shut down my PC first properly and then my Xbox360. I proceeded to unplug the Xbox reassemble and place in it's home (media cabinet).
  • The xbox is working as normal (same as before).
  • Burn my proper iso image using the XBCr and imgburn method from this site. (first attempt 4x second attempt 6x) FYI I'm using "ativa DVD+R DL 8x/240min/8.5gb" disc... this might be my problem?
  • Burn goes perfectly according to XBCr and imgburn. I eject disc, confirm it's recognized in XBCr as a xbox360 game and is stealth (pre patched)

So up to this point everything is great.
But here's the problem. I put the disc in the xbox and it'll say "Reading" followed by "Open Tray". Normally it should be saying "Reading" then either the discs name or just auto play it, correct?

Personally I think it's one of two issues, the firmware, or the burn??    (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

If anyone has any advice on how I can get this working I'd be forever grateful.
I'm fairly noobish with the Xbox360 but I'm quite good with computers/laptops/electricity. So hopefully I won't be to thick headed  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Thanks for reading.

Yes, it reads original games perfectly. I haven't had a chance to pick up any verbatims yet but hopefully will be able to get some tonight. BTW I have some RiData-R DL DVDs a friend gave me today for kicks. Thinking those won't be any good either but worth a try. I'll report back.

Could someone tell me if these Verbs look good?

Well, my burner wouldn't read the blank RiData -R DL disc, so I went out to find some Verbatim+R DL. The only places  I could find them were office max which only had the 20 for $40 spindle. And then Best Buy with there always terrific prices (sarcasm). They had a 5 for $21 pack. I was 5 bucks short ATM so wasn't able to pick them up.

Would someone please confirm that Verbatim is what I need for this Hititchi 59DJ drive? Before I spend 20-40 on a handful of disc sad.gif If that does fix my problem I'll end up buying them in bulk and being a happy gamer.

Thanks for reading (BTW tons of views and one 1 response? whats up?)

Test to see if the flashed worked.
  1. turn xbox on
  2. eject tray
  3. turn off at wall making sure the tray is still ejected
  4. turn on at wall
  5. turn the xbox on
  6. then check the signs of mode b(if the flashed worked the signs will now show)

Takes two pushes of the dvd drive to put the drive back in then it ejects a few seconds later
