Xbc Start Button Grayed Out - 12 Hours Later...
« on: February 09, 2009, 02:21:00 AM »

Hello all,

Please forgive me, I'm new and not very great at this stuff as most of you are and I will probably sound stupid!

I just bought a pre-flashed Samsung SH-D163B DVD Drive, downloaded Xbox Backup Creator v2.8, inserted an original Xbox 360 game, selected the correct drive, and the "Start" button is grayed out.

I searched the internet for several hours looking for help in several different forums with no solution. I tried using different SATA ports in my motherboard, tried installing older versions, fooled around a bit with the BIOS settings, tried inserting different games, switched from SPTI to ASPI and back, and tried several other things and still no luck.

My "Unlock Drive" button in the Drive Tools is also grayed out (that was another "solution" I came across).

Schtrom didn't work because I guess it's only for extracting backups, not originals.

So anyway, after a long 12 hours of trying to figure this out, I'm posting this, pleading with someone for a possible answer or solution.

I have an ASUS P5B motherboard, running Windows XP SP2.  Let me know if there is anything else you need to know.

Thank you SO much!

In the log screen, is it showing your reader?  (SH-D163B)
You have the SH-D163B selected in the top left corner?
You have the read tab selected and not the write tab?

cheers

Can you take a screen shot of both the read tab and the options tab.

It also seems to be only recognizing the disc size as 5.32MB instead of the 7+GB it's supposed to be for a game...

i do not have a sata kreon drive, but i am pretty sure the SB02 next to your drive indicates that your drive is not flashed with a proper kreon firmware. i suggest you stop messing around with it, hoping it will somehow work, and simply flash it with kreon again. the process is super easy!

Thanks so much - I hope that's the answer (but hope it's not at the same time because the guy I bought it off said he flashed it with the most up to date Kreon firmware).  He also sells a lot of them on eBay and has 100% feedback, so I'm sure if he was doing it wrong he would have corrected it, but who knows?

Not sure how to flash it myself... maybe I'll just take it back to the guy and tell him to do it right (maybe he genuinely forgot or didn't know it wasn't up to date)!

Can anyone confirm that that's what the SB02 means?

Thanks everyone for your help/suggestions... turns out the original flash didn't take that the guy did who sent it to me.  I re-flashed and it's working.  Simple as that!  All that stressing for over such a small problem!  Thanks again all!

I also am having the same problem and I have a feeling I'm not going to get help from the seller.

I bought a preflashed Kreon drive TS 353.  It was manufactured in 2007 and it is SATA.  My mobo is an MSI p7n platinum.  I am running windows vista and have the drive installed to slot 2.  I have a 640gb HDD on slot 1 and a ide burner.

The drive was flashed with Kreon V1.00 and showed up as SH D163B.  The drive shows up under the device manager, even when I run XBC I can select the drive but it did have SB02 just as the op's.  The drive doesn't read ANY disc I insert, I have tried 360 originals, cd-rom, dvds, backups, DVD+R DLs and the drive does not read ANY of them.  I even tried installing XP, I tried booting from the Kreon drive, nothing.  I tried disconnecting the burner, still nothing!

So I saw the OP reflashed his drive and now his works so I reflashed mine.  The only thing that changed was under XBC, the drive has SB01 as opposed to SB02.

Can I call this a defective drive?  Is there ANYTHING I can try that I haven't tried yet?  I feel like I have tried EVERYTHING, but nothing works!

I have sent a few PMs over the last couple days to the seller and he has only responded to one asking how I have the drive connected.  I KNOW the seller is busy, so I'll cut him some slack, but if I don't hear back from him, I will have to reveal who he is to warn others of purchasing from him.
