Are Slim Drives Inferior Dvd Burners?
« on: December 09, 2008, 12:32:00 AM »

I currently only own a laptop which has a Pioneer DVR-K16 slim drive which I use to burn. I have been using Memorex with success. I purchased some Verbatims and wondering if it would be wise to go guy a decent external burner to make sure I get good burns; or am I alright using a laptop burner. I mean slim drives seem so flimsy LOL. Thanks to anyone who responds.

i use my laptop drive which is a phillips... works awesome on my dell E1505 and my slot loading drive in my XPS1530 works great just the same....  not 1 coaster from a bad burn only from a bad rip.

you can check places that specialize in CD/DVD burning like CDFreaks Forums .

It is pretty clear that slim are not exactly at the same level as the std burner. That said the difference is not huge, and a slim might very suit your need. It depends on the model and on the performance of that unit itself, not to forget the media used. No way to know but to try it.

On the other hand if you have access to a PC a good pioneer 166/216 is about 35$.

You  should try , only way to confirm

Bigger issue is how will you extract your game with a laptop?

both 116 and 216 have similar performance, both are very good.

but if your slim is doing good, no need to bother really
