Bad Burn Or Bad Rip?
« on: October 28, 2008, 01:57:00 AM »

so i just ripped my Lost odyssey disk 1 dvd and then afterwards checked it in mulleteer and everything checked out ok.  I then burned it with imgburn at 2.4x speed.  I then put it in my 360 and it tell me cant read disk, wipe it off, blah blah blah.

Im thinking it could be a number of things:
bad rip
bad burn
bad dvd

is there anyway to check my rip and make sure its ok or should i just trust that it was a good one because mulleteer says so.

I dont wanna immediately try to burn it again and possibly waste another blank DVD  before i check with you guys.  FYI im using verbatim.

the disk has minor scratches but nothing any worse than anything ive ripped before.  Much better than some and they turned out fine.

Just a random bad burn I'd say. I'd recommend definitely getting a Pioneer burner if you don't have one already, these seem to be the best for burning 360 backups.

I get bad burns all the time on my Samsung burner, but the disc reads fine on my PC and all the CRCs are perfect on Mulleter, also the disc will randomly give me a dirty disc error while I'm playing. I think this is fine (in terms of XBL detection), because you can buy games that mess up as well and as long as the CRCs are fine the disc won't get you banned.

Im using a samsung burner and so far ive burned about 20 backups with no problems(that i know of) except for this.  Well there was that one freeze up in GTA4.  If i did have a bad burn would i know immediately or could it be lurking somewhere on the disk?  I play alot of RPG's so this would really be a pain to have to always put my original in to get past certain points.

Why is pionner so much better? shouldnt it just be whatever drive can burn more accuate disks?  what makes burning 360 ISO's any different than any other iso?

Im currently burning LO again and ill let u know how it turns out.  (im wondering if i should have done 1x and not 2.4 this time)

A bad burn could be something lurking, and when the 360 tries to access the part that is bad you'll get a dirty disc error, this happened to me a few times (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I think that different brands of drives are good for different things. Generally Pioneer drives aren't as good as Samsung for reading, but are way better for burning. I'm not sure why, that's just what I've noticed so far lol.

I upgraded to a Pioneer burner recently for only 30$ AUD (which would be around 15-20$ in USD) and it's definitely worth it. I hear my 360 reading at full speed now because the burns are better quality, so I'd definitely recommend doing that, but only if you keep having issues lol.

As for what happened with your bad burn, I'd try re-ripping the disc again and then burning once more. 2.4x is fine as well.
