I've had this same issue for over a year now and I've gone through 8 different drives, when ever I get a new Hitachi drive for my 360 it usuualy lasted for a few months and then died and I'd have to replace it, but now in the last month I've had to change my Hitachi drive 3 different times while trying to play some of the new releases, it's costing too much to pay $50 a week for a new Hitachi drive, I'm using a pioneer 111d burner and using Verbatim DL 2.4X, my 360 plays regular games and dvds fine for awhile but it seems like the backups I'm using are killing the laser on my Hitachi, I can't for the life of me figure out what this problem is, and from searching around on different sites it seems other people are having the same issues, I wonder if there is a fix to this somehow, any help would be much appreciated, thanks a lot.

I'm not sure, but I might be having the same issue. For me, however, once the disc has had a chance to warm up in the drive, it will work. Is this happening to you guys?

hey guys
i had the same problem with my refurbished 360
with an hitachi drive
you have to tweak the pot in order to make the laser stronger
you can find a tuto here http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=517961
my laser was set at 4.01 and its 3.20 and it's working fine
but you still have to burn your game with good dvd's "verbatim"
and at a lowest speed possible 2.0x 1.0x
good luck

i had a spate of certain games doing this a while back, then fight night rd3 (i think it was) gained the trick of still be spinning in the tray if it was ejected when 360 was vertical, stripping the drive down and regreasing the runners cleaning the belt and cleaning out dust sorted it out, only takes 10 minutes too, worth a try

I think maybe GTA 4 is more problematic than other games.
