Verbatim Issues
« on: July 31, 2008, 04:42:00 PM »

So I've got 2 360s flashed with Ixtreme 1.4 both BenQ drives.  At first I was dreading the price of DVD-DL's so I found a deal online for Memorex at Circuit City for $30.  I raced over and picked up a 25 pack.  Burned only 1 or 2 coasters, and I blame that on my lack of knowledge about the layer size setting and so on.  So I've run thru my memorex pack and decided to upgrade and pick up some Verbatims that were on sale from best buy.  A Singapore 2.4x pack.  My friend also picked up a pack but from a different Best buy.

Using the either set of verbatims we get TONS of unreadable disk errors, burning the same games onto memorex disks and they play perfectly.  Has anyone else had this issue?  I've read that the Verbs are supposed to be the best however I'm just not seeing it.

Burning on a Samsung Writemaster TS-H552B.  Both 360s are BenQs with the HDMI port (not sure if that effects anything)

In some extremely rare cases this can happen.  However are you 100% sure they are MIS?  The majority of the 2.4x official media these days seems to be MII.  Also what are you using to burn the images with? (software)

Woops...knew I forgot some info.  I'm using Imageburn to burn them.  The packaging says "Made in Singapore" so unless they're putting old packaging on new India disks, I don't know.  Is there anyway to tell by just looking at the disks where they're made.

An update to my situation:
Attempted new iso burn with ImgBurn using said Verbatims.  Burned at 2.4x and 2.0x and both give me unreadable disk errors after a very short time.

Thanks for helping any input would be appreciated.

I have to confess that 4x is the slowest burn that i have ever made with a Verbatim DL disc.  I usually burn them at 6x to 8x with no difficulty.  Given todays burners and quality standards on media there really isn't any reason to burn at the slowest possible speed (unless you have a really crappy drive or are using cheap quality media).

So after a few more backups I believe I figured out my issue.  I dont believe it really had anything to do with the disks as much as it has to do with my burner.  The burner doesnt like the verbatim disks.  I transfered my image to my laptop and burned on my sony burner and the verbatim disks worked great.  So thanks to all who helped with ideas.  However once my verbatims run out I'll be back to Memorex disks.
