New Easy Way Of Backing Up Xbox360 Games

First of all you just can't use any dvd rom. You need a kreon drive + XBC to backup your originals.

I did i played one full song and took that as it working, do i have an abnormal dvd drive or something? Why is it that normally i dvd-rom can't read an xbox360 iso, cant read ss? dmi? pfi? game data?

*Edit* The dvd drive model is branded Philips and BenQ and model DVD8900 quick google search brings up

the lite-on DVD8900 or DW1670

Excuse me but you're talking about a 360 game right? Normal DVD ROM's need a special firmware to be able to extract all the ss, dmi and etc. from a retail disc. And since the samsung (certain models) were easy enough for someone to modify it to read games, and there you have it.

PS: Don't ask for any ss, dmi or pfi files because you will get in trouble.

Yes i am, a bog standard dvd+-RW DL drive i bought of ebay a year ago.

According to schtrom and xbc it reads the 360 disc perfectly, fully stealthed, the same with my guitar hero 2 disc which i just did now but xdvdmulleter also checks it out fine

Good for you. Honestly people in here will find it hard to believe that you were able to make backups of your original with a standard DVD burner.

But hey I don't care what you do, that's your business.

Honestly mate why would people buy that drive if they can buy a kreon drive that will do proper backups?

I don't find it offensive but that drive has not been proven 100% to backup 360 games. But the kreon drive is a different story.

Ok so basically i just put my rockband retail disc into my DVD+R DL Burner  which is connected via usb to my laptop and started up XBC2.8 and dumped it (current partition) for giggles.

Then for giggles i stealth checked it with schtrom360 XBC and xdvdmulleter they all said it was ok except mulleter which said there was no video partition and tried to download it.

I cancelled the download and then for giggles i put it in my xbox and played Creep by Radiohead????

I thought you couldnt backup with retail dvd-rom drives????

What settings did you use in XBC 2.8? Did you also have img burn installed?

its quite possible for retail DVD drives to read 360 games, it just depends on the drive and firmware. it seems the firmware your using is able to start reading the disc at the correct sector. try doing a complete backup using XBC using that drive and a kreon drive and compare them to see if its doing a true copy.

also, check it with other games as well.

if both images compare 100% byte to byte (the ss may be a few bytes off) then its make a backup the same as a kreon, if its different then its not reading the disk correctly and i would suggest you discontinue using it if you plan on using Live or dont want disc read errors

I have this drive in another one of my computers. I will post my findings in an hour or so. I never used this drive for much of anything.

What happened?
