I see no harm in manually flashing the drive, just to make sure it's got the right firmware.

So does this mean people with iXtreme firmware drives don't have to worry about SS? I've seen lot of thread with SS merger being done but they didn't say why.

no, people with iXtreme do have to worry about the SS, DMI, PFI and Video sectors. otherwise the iXtreme firmware will report it as a bad backup and wont allow you to boot the game. this is for your saftey as without those sectors, its quite easy to get bannd from live.

thats why its a good idea to use a kreon drive, as everything is done automatically and correctly. you just have to rip and burn
