I just burned my first backup today.

I ripped it with my BenQ with 0800 firmware.

Burned using a Samsung SH-S182D.

Used Verbatim 8x DVD+DL Singapore media.

Burned using ImgBurn.

Set it to booktype/bitset to DVD-ROM

Set it to burn at 2.4x but most of the burning process it reported as burning at 4x, or around 5mbps if I remember correctly...was kinda WTF'ing about that.

So when I put in my backup, and it loads and such, in places in the game where my original disc would just normally be quiet, my laser goes crazy.

It seems as though it is jumping back and forth between the outer part of the disc and the inner circle, back and forth back and forth along the rails the laser assembly lies on. And with my original disc, this doesn't happen...

Like it is bearable but kind of aggitating...why is this happening to me?

Is this normal or something I did wrong?

Even the best media (and in your case you are using the best) is harder to read than an original stamped disc.

So yeah, I'd say it's normal. Some games end up being louder than others, I'm sure if you do another game you'll find it's different.

As far as the speed, look under supported speeds or something in ImgBurn on the right panel. Should be listed there. Certain drive/media combinations yield different results for what the drive thinks it can burn at. I was trying to burn some RITEK-D01's at 1x the other day and ImgBurn still was doing it at 2.4x.

I have a 360 w/ a Benq and it does the same thing and I was worried at first but I think that's what everybodys does.  Some games are alot worse than others.  I don't play the Madden 08 backup often b/c it makes that sound constantly throughout the whole time i'm playing.  NBA 2k8 does it when i'm in the menus constantly but when i'm playing an actual game it's not that bad.  Weird.

I recently backed up my GTA 4 and decided to test it against my original and there are moments of spazzing.  Plus the load time are slighlty longer, no more then 10% i'd say, but what can you expect?

I'm thinking about wrapping some acoustic damping material (stuff) around the drive to quieter her down, but I doubt it will help.  I can't hear it most of the time now, so used to be

its normal.

and its not a good idea wrapping anything around the DVD drive to drown out the noise. the DVD drive will then heat up like crazy
