Pfi Not Recognized

Xbox backup creator says that it can not validate the PFI but DVD mulletter says that everything checks out correctly. Is something wrong or is one the programs wrong? If anyone has any info I would like to know. I have tried to games and both give the same result. Also how important is PFI to have in order to play backups?
