Samsung Sh-d162d Dvd Drive
« on: March 03, 2008, 04:51:00 AM »

Hey there, i recently purchased a SAMSUNG SH-D162D KREON V1.0 DVD DRIVE off ebay. Now ive set it all up and the pc finds the drive.

The only problem is when i load a 360 disc in the drive dosnt pick up that its a a xbox game. Now it dose pick up the size, so all i can think of the problem being is that mabey its not flashed with Kreon V1.0. I have searched for this on xbins, the site says that they have it, i cant seem to find it at all. If its anyhelp in using Vista!

How are you checking to see if it's a 360 disc?  Windows won't know the difference.  You'll need to use one of the common tools to rip/backup your games, and that's how you'll know if your drive is ok.  Try out XBCr or Schtrom, both are simple to use.

Yes im using XBC, this is what it shows

Found ODD: TSSTcorp DVD-ROM SH-D162D SB00 at [E]
   Additional Info: KREON V1.0

And this is whats displayed when i put in a xbox disc

ImgBurn executable not found
Getting media info [D]
   Disk Book Type: UNKNOWN
   Media Type: DVD+R (Blank)
Bytes Available: 4.38 GB (4,700,372,992 bytes)
Getting media info [E]
   Media Type: DVD-ROM
Bytes Used: 7.05 GB (7,572,881,408 bytes)

Ive tired following the tutorials and that to unlock the drive but i notthing is working. And currently this dvd drive isnt supported in xbcs settings when choosing a dvd drive, could this be the problem?

It is supported (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) I'm using the old 2.7 version and even there it is supported. Select the drive in the options menu and in the dropdown box at the top and click start at the backup section.

What you see in the log is that XBC detected 2 drives. One is the Kreon drive (e) with an xbox game in it and the other one is a DVD-Burner (d) with an empty DVD5 in it and that's why it has no booktype.

Your drive is fine. Just hit start and XBC will create an image.

I had that problem. XBC wouldnt work becaus ethe 'start' option was greyed out even though it saw the drive fine and for me schtrom would fail because it couldnt read the ss's. I had to reinstall (Im assuming it was a problem somewhere in windows that was solved with the os being reinstalled with the drive connected) and it works great now. Hopefully you find a better solution. Good luck, I finally got frustrated enough to reinstall.

Well, I'm using v2.7 Build:0265. That isn't the newest and the drive is listed in the options so maybe you got an even older version.
If that isn't the case uninstall the drive in the devicemanager and reboot. When it is reinstalled put the Adaptec ASPI Layer on your computer. It shouldn't be needed but sometimes it just works better (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
