It took me 4 hours to back up disc 4.

The disc was spotless I cleaned it regardless and it got a bit further so that means the disc was somehow not spotless.

I then cleaned it again tried it in another drive and still failed even before the previous bit it had managed to get past on the other laser. I repeatedly cleaned it and then used galpharm medical antiseptic cream that I had bought recently from ALDI co,s I could not be bothered to go upstairs to get toothpaste. Applied a little and wiped off.

After this it nearly got past, swapped to another drive it got further then got brand new 163B out of wrapper flashed it and it completed with 16 sectors missing so cleaned again with antiseptic cream and it read all disc without error.

Seem to have run into a problem backing up Disc 4.

Anyone managed to backup disc 4 ?
I doubt it's protection but I am starting to suspect a mastering error as the disc is spotless and 4 lasers cannot be worn out.

Thanks

I had the same problem with disc 2 and disc 4. Managed to use the 'Unlock drive' command and then use DVD Dycrypter to make an ISO image - it read through all the way without any problem on both disc 2 and disc 4.

Trouble is you end up with a 6.80gb ISO without SS, etc. So may try injecting them from disc 1 and see what happens.

disc one would have a different SS, DMI, and PFI than Disc 4. DVD decypter should not be used for reading a game disc either. XBC will create a closer 1:1 image than DVD decypter ever will. as far as you know, it may of filled the unreadable areas with just zeroed data without it asking which will only cause the backup to freeze

what you should do is clean the disc. the human eye is not capable of seing microscopic dirt and scratches, so while i may look clean to you, it wont look clean to your laser. either that or your laser is dying

try a different version of XBC, it may work.

seeing as your using it on a banned console, then all you need is the SS which you can extract manually and inject it into the image manually. that is, of course, you you are using a non stealth firmware
