Some Games Won't Burn Correctly, Help Please!?!?!?!
« on: February 09, 2008, 03:58:00 PM »

Hey wat's up.  I have a serious problem, and thanks in advance for any input (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) .  Here's the deal.  I've burned many 360 games w/ my R4000 Compaq Presario Laptop.  However, two games, Oblivion and Skate, do not seem to want to burn whenever I try to burn them.  I always get this message or something like it:

(This particular message was given from ImgBurn while trying to burn an Oblivion ISO (stealth-patched and a good rip))

I/O Error!

Device: [1:0:0] HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GCA-4080N 0C35 (D) (ATA)

ScsiStatus: 0x02
Interpretation: Check Condition

CDB: 2A 00 00 1D 35 C0 00 00 20 00
Interpretation: Write (10) - Sectors: 1914304 - 1914335

Sense Areas: 70 00 03 00 00 00 00 10 3C 30 00 0E 02 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
Interpretation: No Seek Complete

(Options are “Retry” or “Cancel”)

So you see, I can't burn Oblivion or Skate, and I just waste disks.  I believe it is my dvd+/-rw burner (don't know the name, it came with my Compaq Presario R4000 Laptop), and that something is not compatible when burning these particular ISOs.  Weird, huh! It sounds improbable, but believe me I don't know what else could be the problem (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)  Do you think that this is the problem? I'm sure all my games are good rips, so one can only assume it is my hardware that's causing the problem.  And I don't really understand the "error" message, but if I had to guess I think its my drive.  Should I try another computer/dvd burner?

Btw, in case it matters, I'm using Verbatim media (works perfectly except these 3 games), I have ixtreme fw 1.4 (requiring stealth-patching which I always do), and have a MS28 Drive.  And yes my firmware is compatible with media/write speed (2.4) that I'm using.

Any help or input is appreciated (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) , and thanks again. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Oh hey guys, sorry for not answering, something suddenly came up (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

But yeah, scuba, I'm not completely sure that the rips are fine.  But my friend and I both use his MS28 drive in the xtreme fw (I didn't want to reflash/reopen my own, I know I'm lazy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ), and we use xbox backup creator.  We also check on xdvdmulleter to see if it is confirmed stealth-patched (basically its randomly padded, video/data partition is present, and the dmi, pfi, and ss are all in place)

I also ripped oblivion twice to see wat's up: both times unsuccessful

Oh and yea I've tried clonecd no luck at all (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

Yes, I've just copied one of my newer games, Blacksite: area 51, just yesterday, and its working

I think maybe its my laptop's laser, or just the fact that the drive is old or something.  That could be the only answer, I'd think.  (my friend's getting his new vista pc up and running when it arrives soon, so i'll try it on his pc later.)

Do you think this I/O error is a result of the dvd drive not reading/writing the data correctly.  I have not clue what the error means, but maybe that "sense areas" part means that the disk is messed up, and I should try again with another?  I really don't think so, though.  But I heard that some guy had a similar problem with crappy disks, and then he switched to ritek-d01-01 type discs and it all worked.  What do you think? Its Verbatim media, so it should work, right?

hey guys sorry to be off the topic but could i please get some help PLEASE. i have been trying to get this right for so long now.. orite heres the story

i have the infamous x-blaster 360 NE and i have no trouble connecting my hitachi to the computer (my hitachi is flashed im just not sure with witch firmware.. i have created many backups already, (around 15) but using the hotswapping method, and just an unverified SS.BIN off the net.. but the ONLI REASON i have bought the blaster is so i can extract the ss myself.. but this doesnt work.. i have the iso images on my computer and then i use dvd infopro to extract the ss key following many tuturiols that i have found on the net.. i then go to merge my iso (that i got from the hot-swapping method) with my ss.bin (that i got by connecting my 360 to the computer and then using dvdinfopro to extract it)... so THEN when i go to merge it using xbox 360 ss merger v1.7.. and it says invalid ss, and the bar is red... evrey ss i have merged before, the bar has been red and the back-up has still worked anyway.. but the "invalid ss" has never come up b4.. i would DEARLY appreciate ANY help please.. is there another way to get the ss.bin? is there a different way with hitachi's? i have tried using xbox backup creater.. but as ive heard i think its only for samsungs... beacuse i always get an error wen i open drive tools. Im also wondering is it possible to use the hot-swapping method to get the iso.. and then extract the ss using dvdinfo pro and merging them using ss merger?.. beacuse wen i do that i get an error on merger saying invalid ss? p.s i have the 360 connected to my pc using xblaster.. and a usb to sata cable.. if u have the 360 connected to ur comp, do you have to dump the iso another way rather than hot-swap?.. please help any help would be appreciated.. this is really doing my head in..

Cheers.

(oh and btw cliffdawg sorry to write in your post but i have got no repleis from any 1 else... i think these games might not be working beacuse.. with the hot-swap method not all off the game is copied, some is dumped.. and for me, saints row AND oblivion are the only games that didnt work for me.. co-incidence that there both HUGE games? not sure.. but just letting you know my opinion. « Reply #7 on: February 10, 2008, 12:53:00 AM »

jaipee, hey wassup dude.  First off, I'm kind of a noob (modded the 360 a month ago), and my friend uses HIS xbox 360 w/ an MS28 drive to make our backups.  He uses the 0800 disc and his xtreme fw to boot into windows and use xbox backup creator to do his thing.  So I'm sort of a noob at the hot-swap method and i'm probably the wrong mate for the questions, but I got some information for you that I think I can help:

Alright here's the deal.  The ss merger program doesn't work really anymore because the guy running it didn't get enough donations to keep the ss confirmation database.
Basically the online database would make the bar green if it was confirmed working, however, now it is offline and all the ss files posted on that program is gonna be red

My advice: use xdvdmulleter 10 beta.  This will load the ISO and tell you what region it is, if it's ixtreme compatible (stealth-patched w/ dmi, pfi, ss files and is randomly padded w/ the data partition), and will (Most importantly) stealth-patch your files for you.  Now all you have to do is load the ISO, click autofix, and it will input all that is needed to make your ISO stealth.  It can also insert the data partition/video data, and can make a .dvd file, and can rebuild you ISO, and yada yada yada.  Basically the autofix feature will work as long as the ISO itself is a good rip, and it can do everthing except "randomly pad" your ISO for you (random padding is needed to work on an ixtreme fw, as it is stealth-essential).

Now I don't know how to get the ss files by the hotswap method, but u can get'm from xdvdmulleter after you get the ISO or from an online database as you previously said (although I'm not quite sure as to the legality of that).

QUOTE
Im also wondering is it possible to use the hot-swapping method to get the iso.. and then extract the ss using dvdinfo pro and merging them using ss merger?

Sorry I don't know that at all, if this is not answered in textbook tutorial, then search for some forums.

QUOTE
if u have the 360 connected to ur comp, do you have to dump the iso another way rather than hot-swap?..

I can only think that you can buy a kreon drive (textbook's tutorial once again) but that's all I know

QUOTE
co-incidence that there both HUGE games?

hmmm... I don't think so, as they're not much bigger than all the others (most are about the same size, my oblivion is 7,572,881,408 bytes.)

So yeah I'm basically a noob at the hot-swap method, but here's some tips jaipee:
1. most ss files you find should work w/ your game (as long as they are your ISO's region)
2. make your own forum in "Newbie Chat" and/or "Xbox360 Backup Forum - DVD DL help / ISO Building" (Newbie Chat will often get you some quick responses) and message people with similar forums, questions, or alot of knowledge to make them aware of your topic (I'll pm u of some specific knowledgeable people on this site (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)  that can probably help u)
3. Try other xbox sites with the same topic question to try to find the right answer
4. Try to state one major question from the get-go in the forum topic, then add supporting information.  That way people won't have to find it or many other smaller questions.  Like title it "Can I extract the ss using dvdinfo pro w/ the hot swap method" for example ( i don't know if that even makes sense  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) )

Good luck mate, and get my pm!

Back to my question, though. Does anyone believe that the error message in the 1st post is caused by a faulty dvd burner, or maybe the burner's laser is bad or something? I think its the burner's fault, should I try another burner in place of my laptop's?  Thanks biggrin.gif

I get similar errors if I try to burn most currently available dual layer disks with my benq 1620 (in fact, for this burner there are supported media codes in the firmware where they messed up and the burn fails randomly after the layer break because of the broken write strategy in the firmware) - after benq was bought out I lost hope of ever getting fixed write strategies for current dual layer disc media codes so I wound up getting a pioneer OEM burner cheap.

Basically, look to see if any burner firmware updates fixes problems with the specific media you use (if there are any, I know laptop firmware updates are usually very sparse.) Failing that, try a different burner. Failing that, try different disks (even media that costs a premium often has issues in the dye layers that you can usually see under a good light.) Failing that, try different disks in a different burner on a different PC... all presuming you have some verification that your rip of the games are good, of course.

Cool ya thanks cory. I'm defineteyl gonna try on a different pc soon.  Its a new dell w/ vista, so the burner should be top notch and up to date.  I don't think its the media, seeing as how all my ISOs burn EXCEPT Oblivion and Skate, which is kind of weird.  So I'm probably gonna wait to use a new computer, cause I'm sick of wasting Verbatim disks heheehehe biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif   Thanks smile.gif
