...unplayable Disc
« on: February 09, 2008, 10:13:00 AM »

oki ive had my 360 since day 1, and flashed it about same time it got "Popular".
And now 1 year later and for some strange fckn reason my backups (from my originals) refuse to start up.

They worked fine before, ive tried several firmware updates & even changed burner 3 times...
Is it me or are the firmwares making my 360 sick or soeting cuz shit not working anymore.

i put in my backup, the discs spins up & down a few times then i get the "Unplayable Disc" message", if i keep trying this (ejecting disc & put it back in) like 30-40 times.. it boots up 1/40 times (more or less) now wtf is up with that?

My originals work fine.

XBOX360 version: Hitachi - GDR3120L
Burner used: Pioneer DVR-112d
Disc's Used: Verbatims DL (couldnt find a media code for them) but they worked before.
Burn.Prog: CloneCD (Gonna try imgBurn later, but i'll doubt it'll make any diffrence)

What i dont get is why does it take 30-40 tries before the fckn disc's boots up?
Bring back the "Put the backups on your HD" option ffs. lol

your laser needs to be replaced, thats what the problem is

also, games cannot be booted off the HDD due to the media flag which allows games to only boot from disc

Gah this sucks.
Media flag huh? hm.. too technical for me but i'll trust ur judgement on that.

Just strange my originals boot up @ 1st try though, i mean compared to the burnt backups.
I have to look into the "New Laser" replacement thingy. But thx for the short & simple answer.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

games have a media flag put on them which tells the xbox that it can only be launched from a disc. if you put the game on your HDD, it would see the mediaflag and realize the data is coming from somewhere that it shouldnt be coming from and not allow it to boot. just to answer a possible future question, no the media flag cannot be change as it would break the games signature

original (pressed) discs are of higher quality and are more stable which allows to laser to read them, burnt discs are of lesser quality so the laser has to work harder to read them. if the laser it dying, its using less power to try and read the discs and simply cannot read them

Aha i see.

Not to be a pain in the ass with noobish question, but are these media flags unique for each game, or are they all the same for all games? (or disc's only)

Where im trying to get is...So the media flag cant even be simulated?
Something similar to "Daemon Tools" to simulate a fake dvdrom on your PC/Laptop?
