New Looking Verbatims Suck?
« on: January 06, 2008, 04:33:00 PM »

(IMG:http://www.futureshop.ca/multimedia/products/large/10076390.jpg)
old ones....

(IMG:http://www.verbatim.com/images/products/953104.jpg)
new ones

I've never had a problem with the old Verbatims, but I've made 4 backups with the new looking ones and 2 give me unreadable disc (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif)

are these new ones of a lower quality?

thanks

Couldn't have said it better myself.  Go with the 8x official rated stuff and you will be fine.

How do you know what country they were made in before buying. If them ones in the purple are the india poor ones I aint buying them as Ive seen them in my local shop.

Where does it tell you on the packet so I can make sure they aint the crap ones (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Once again the 8x official rated ones are all Made In Singapore.  You can always verify the country of origin though by checking right below the UPC symbol on the label.  Another easy way of doing it is that the 8x official ones currently all come in 5 packs with jewel cases or 15 packs.  The 2.4x discs come in 3 packs, 10 packs and 20 packs (at least here in North America).

I have always used THESE with no problems, however, recently I bought some from ebay which were supposed to be these pure blue colour cake, & they are the purple ones above. The 360 reads the (purple cake) discs fine with a 6gb movie on the disc. I tried a new game on one though, & it updated the dash from the disc, saying that it needs to be updated to play the game, after that, it says that the disc is an "unplayable disc". It still plays the movie on the same disc type (purple cake), & still plays all the other games & movies on the other (blue cake) disc type.

I got the backup to play about 12 times in total, 3 of which were in a row, but now it won't play at all. I decided to try some other games on these discs, & they work fine, then I re-burned assassin's creed & it also works fine. Films work fine on these discs too. So it's not the discs, it was just a bad burn. I'm using the Samsung pc rom drive, Pioneer writing drive, with a hitachi gdr3120l in the 360 with maximus gary-opa v2.. fw.

Using purple cake discs, made in singapore.
