Flash Back To Rip Games
« on: December 11, 2007, 11:57:00 PM »

With all the rumors flying around with Kreon ripping, I've thought of using my MS25 for ripping games using XBC.  I know the iXtreme firmwares have no 0800 mode, so I'm wondering if you could flash back to an earlier version like 5.2 for example to perform some rips without getting banned.  You would obviously not have the network cable plugged in but I'm wondering if M$ has found a way to detect the older firmwares themselves.  If so, I think I'd wait till I had like 3 or 4 new games to backup, then flash back and rip.  I'm curious to hear if anyone else is taking this approach or what.  I also know the new iXtreme supposedly fixes this kreon issue but it seems speculative.  Thanks!

M$ is not currently able to check your DVD-ROM firmware.  Flash away.  But if you have a kreon drive, just use it; it works fine.

There was and [currently] is no Kreon issue, that is bad information circulating around forums. The issue was with disc jitter in iXtreme 1.3 and was fixed in iXtreme 1.4. The "kreon bad rip" was debunked and the kreon checker is now useless (as of iX1.4).
