if your kreon is ok as you tested it in another PC, tried both master/slave,  and you tried both xbc, schtrom , and also ensured no other memory resident  drive tool is working...then it comes down to something on your PC.
I have seen a very few (one or two) for which it never worked.

again next step would be another partition on your drive with XP  (or you might consider a fresh vista)

I know you said you disabled every emulation software you had but are you sure you don't have  ANYDVD installed and running because in the past it has given me the same problem and as soon as I disabled it everything worked fine.

hope it helps

This may seem like a stupid statement, but have you made sure that your Samsung drive is selected in XBC? If it isn't then that is what would be causing the Start button to be greyed out.

Hey,

Just thought I'd drop you a quick line. I had the EXACT same problem with my SH-162C IDE drive... I'm running 2 IDE cables for 2 seperate drives, with 1 being my SH-162C drive... all I did in the end was swapped the IDE cables around and now it works like a charm in Vista Ultimate 32.

Dunno if that will help but it fixed me up!

Cheers

fixed my issue by removing it from the external case.  It was set to master inside the external case, but I also put it into the computer and removed my DVD drive, so as of now it is working, but my backups aren't quite yet, onto the next problem!

Hi,

Please can you attach a screen dump of xbc when you have the disc in the drive and showing the greyed out "Start" button?

Cheers
