Check the country of origin on the spindles.  Most of the MKM001 production (2.4x DL Verbatim) has been outsourced to Moser Baer in India and they ARE NOT of the same quality as the good 'ol Singapore produced MKM001 discs.

I've got the singapore discs, but get the "unreadable disk".  Sometimes it will read and i'll be able to play the game, but then in the middle of playing the game, it will stop all of a sudden and give me that "unreadable disk" and i'll have to turn off the xbox.  It doesn't happen in a particular part of a game, but happens randomly.  I'm starting to think that the Benq drives are the culprit.  Does everyone here that is having problems also have a Benq drive?

I am having the exact same problem. These India manufactured discs are complete trash. Clone cd/dvd would give me recording failed errors, and even if the recording is reported as successful, my 360 would still end up not being able to read it. Singapore discs never gave me a problem. I used to order my spindles from newegg.com for 35 bucks, but I guess I am going to have to go to a local shop and pay extra cash just to make sure I am getting a singapore made product. I have made about 8 coasters out of a 20 pack. That gets expensive after a while. I guess I am going to have to try a different brand completely and see if I get better results.

It's funny. I use cheapy Datawrite Titanium 2.4x disks and have absolutely zero coasters and even less problems playing them.

If you have a microcenter in your area or if you would prefer to order online from them.  They currently have the 8x official rated DL Verbs in 15 packs for $28 right now and they are ALL still produced in Singapore.  http://www.microcent...duct_id=0259490.  Also Sony has started outsourcing SOME of it's DL media production to MKM (exact same manufacturer as the Singapore made Verbatims).  So keep an eye out for sales on those as well.

You relies this is a old topic. But anyway, I havnt made any coasters out of a 20pack EMTEK DL. And have made 3 coasters out of a 20pack of Verbs. And every Verbs has seemed to give me a error when burning but CRC checks still checked out fine. Just a error on closing disk.

Netsoftmedia.com has great deals, amazing fast shipping, and ALL come from Singapore. I'd say about 1% fail rate or less for all of mine.
props and A+ to that company. The shipping speed amazes me every time.

These "which media is best" threads are getting old. They are no where near as bad as when the first 360 drives were flashed, but for some reason they still keep popping up (and old ones like this get resurrected).

Some important things to keep in mind that WILL affect the quality of the discs and their readability....

1: All 360 drives are different,  even if you are comparing a benq to a benq. Their will always be minor differences (tolerance levels) in each one so each drive will act differently.

2: Same goes for burners and the drives that you use to rip with.

3: Slowest burning speed is not always best. Check the rated burn speed of the media. If it says 2x-8x speed, then burn within those speeds. Trying to burn at speeds other then what it is rated for (1x or 1.5x for example) is only asking for trouble. Cases of this have been posted here before.

4: No media is best. Why? Because of the differences in the reading drives and burning drives also play a factor in the final product. Case in point, people have posted using bargin-barn no-name brands and having flawless success but with "the good media" they get coasters. Your hardware (the burner and the reader) WILL be the deciding factor on which is "best" for your setup.

Knowing all of this will lead to only one conclusion, and that is to experiment. If your setup works with "cheap" media, then run with it. If your current media (may it be verbs, memorex, or office depot brand) are not working, then try a different brand.

Nobody has the "exact" setup as someone else, so the most you can do is use what they posted as a general guideline on where to start to help cut down any un-needed costs.

And for those that post "I got brand x to work" doesn't help much. What software did you use? what was the reading drive? What was the burning drive? What drive is in the 360? What FW is flashed to the 360? These are all factors that play a roll in the final product.
