I know a bit about burning and DVD, so i'm gonna try to help, the thread you show is very informative, but it doesn't really cover the picture.

1st thing you want to do is locating what's available at your place, you can then proceed to categorize them into Codes. You can get this info @ videohelp.com, under their media sections. And also you want to have a good burner, the normal bigboys are BenQ, Pioneer, LG. But some will do better than others @ dual layer, depends on the code of your disc, check out reviews @ cdfreaks forum, they have tested most of these burners.

Dual Layer DVD are usually classify into 4 types
MKM
Ritek
Ricoh
CMC

Ritek and Ricoh are the same, you'll get similar results. So we usually end up with 3

MKM
Ritek
CMC

pretty simple stuff. Now you just have to watch the price, i would just get 1 of each and test them out to see which is best in terms of Performance/price...

As far as i know, benQ makes very good drive they are very good readers, so i hope it's not too picky about media, I just picked up some Ritek S04 for really really cheap (like 40 cents a disc). so i hope they'll work, I have not recieve my KREON drive, so i don't know yet. I'll let you know when i get my drive and back up my games.

For double layer media, the answer is the same as it is for every other drive.  Verbatim or Sony DL DVD+R THAT IS MADE IN SINGAPORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only place to get KMK in singapore is a local store (because you don't know what you gonna get when you order online). The local stores that carries them is around 3 bucks PER disc, that's a rediculous amount. Sure it works but when Ritek S04 is going for 50cents each, i would take a chance and see how it works out. Ritek S04 is a bit better than the D01 disc, so as i said before, get 1 of each to test out the water, see what works best for you in terms of price/performance.

agreed with jesterrace,

Warlock, you seem to be in North-america so if you can get ritek at 0.50$, you can certainly get verbatim at less than 3$ each. Infact you should be able to get them at nearly the same price as others, so price is not the argument.

I paid my verb less than 0.80 $, to protect  a 70$ game, it is well worthed.

as for the quality, if there are competion in SL market, it is very different in DL. The gap in quality between verb MIS (made in singapore) and other media is much wider than in SL.
The last 18 months at XS has shown that for x360, verbs have a definite advantage in term of producing less coaster, and aging better.

V3rb, beleive you are in Canada: verbs come in special at eirther Fshop or best buy every two or three weeks.
