Hi guys, I decided to join this forum since this place appears to be the most knowledgeable forum I could find. I'll tell you exactly what I did and tell you the problem I am having.
For starters, I have a 360 premium with an ms28 drive. I downloaded iPrep and made a bootable usb stick using the ixtreme1.2b(slow read) firmware (also selected the via scsi controller, since it showed up, now alot of times it doesn't). I dumped the orig.bin perfectly as well as the drive key. Here's where stuff started to go downhill.
After dumping the original firmware, samtool would not automatically start for me and no matter what I did, I couldn't get it to do it's thing with the hacked firmware and the original firmware. I ended up using these commands to create the 3rd hacked firmware:
Note: the usb stick is C since it's the only drive plugged in
samtool C:\backups\xxxxxx\yyyyy\orig.bin ixtreme.bin (then hit enter)
did this and it told me I am ready for flashing.
copy ixtreme.bin C:\backups\xxxxxxx\yyyyy (then hit enter)
cd /backups/xxxxxxx/yyyyy/
copy ixtreme.bin hacked.bin (then hit enter)
cd..
cd..
cd..
iflash xxxxxx yyyyy
I do all this and do the console power trick to get it to flash and it worked perfectly, tells me to reboot the pc.
Now I backed up dead rising perfectly, and used dvdmulleter to ensure the ixtreme copy was perfect, and it says it is. But when I put the disc in the drive it says insert dvd, game, etc...
I burned the image with my plextor 716a with the latest firmware, and made sure the correct layer break was entered.
I used dvdinfopro to make sure the verbatim dvd+r dl was being burned as dvd-rom, but it's weird because under the +rw tab, dvd+r dl is grayed out, even though under plextools and imgburn the book type setting for my burner is set to dvd-rom.
Anyway, I have reached two possible conclusions. My plextor has some wierd auto book type setting which the program can't overwrite, and the burn gets messed up. Or, When I flashed the drive the way I did, that it possibly used the orig.bin file instead of the hacked.bin file, even though the procedure I did makes sense.
Another thing that is really screwing up is my new via vt6421 card, most of the time it doesn't show up in the hardware manager or iPrep as well as when flashing the drive. It was hit or miss trying to flash it when it's detected it works fine, but getting it to show up has been hit or miss.
Do you guys have any suggestions for me as to what I can try? dvdmulleter says my backup is perfect with ixtreme firmware. I don't have another backup since dead rising is the only game I own, and cant' exactly test it in another flashed 360. This is soo frustrating, and has to be the most complicated thing I have ever done before, lol.
Hope the read isn't too bad and I was clear enough, thanks.
PS: if there is another alternative to using samtools or iflash to ensure the right firmware gets flashed, please let me know.
