Halo 3 Backup
« on: October 27, 2007, 05:03:00 PM »

Ok  i went out and bought the halo 3 legendary edition and decided to make me a backup.  Well i have a kreon drive and 2 different burners.  one is a pioneer 112D sata and the other is a Samsung and dont know what version.  I am using XBOX bacjup creator 2.6 and IMG burn.  I have used 4 different brand name media and the latest one that i have tried is the Verbatim.

The problem that i am having is that the burn is completed and when i place into the box it will load up and i can play.  Whenever i get to the 7th level, the level will not load.  It tries it three times and then says content failed to load.  It does this with every singe copy that i have tried to make.  i have used both burners and even different burning software.  I have tried IMG burn, Nero 7 ultimate, ISO magic and even tried using the XBOX backup creator and nothing seems to work at all.  I am at a loss at where to go from here.

And it is not the firmware on the 360.  a friend of mine has his flashed and it will not work on his box either.  and his is a different dvd drive than mine.  and mine is the samsung v78

have you tried loading the original disk in and seeing if it plays the 7th level.  the legendary halos have problems with packaging and scratched disks.

try backing it up again. maybe for some reason it skips some files when it was getting backed up. Also try burning your games at 2x or 2.4x

The original has no problems with any of the maps or multi-player content.

In the XBOX backup creator i clicked FULL BACKUP and even made sure my kreon drive is unlocked.  When burning i always burn using 1X so there is less chance that data is skipped.

I thought this was interesting and was hoping for some other opinions on this, as with 360 backups I've always seen people only suggest 2 to 2.4x.  I've never tried this with a 360 back up, but in my experience with burning cds or movies for broad player compatibility, sometimes you can burn discs "too slowly."  For example, a cd-r that supports up to 48x will not burn more reliably at speeds like 4x or 8x.  It might even be less reliable.  You would want to burn that disc at 40x or 32x.  If your DVD+R DL discs support speeds from say, 2x - 8x, burning at 1x might actually cause a problem.  Anyone have any insights, especially those with experience burning at 1x?

I have burned at 1x 2x 2.4x and even 8x and the result is the same.

what is the size of the extracted game?

have you tried without unlocking, doing so may extract only the game, but not the SS, DMI, PFI...

The extracted game unlocked is 7.29 and the locked is 7.03

If it was not extracting the SS, DMI, PFI then how does the game work?  The copies i am burning work just fine except for the 7th level in the campaign.

I just found out that the XBOX backup creator is what is giving me the problem with the HALO 3.  I took a ISO over to a friends house that has a different burner than i do and it still failes on the 7th campaign map.

Is there another alternative to xbox backup creator or could it be my kreon drive?

the unlocked one should be the good one at 7.29.

also note that if you tried on a different burner with the same issue it is an extraction problem. Have you tried with schtrom 3.3? (you may already have tried, had no time to read the entire thread  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) )

also have you done other backups successfully before?

note that some original disk are marginal and difficult to read, it happens ( post )
