Are You Still Using Verbatim Media Or Something Else Now?
« on: October 22, 2007, 10:40:00 AM »

Hi,

Time was that all the XBOX360 guys that came and saw me always wanted Verbatim DL 43572 the white top dual layer discs - mainly now though they are buying AONE and some of the cheaper discs. Is this because of the shortage of the Verbatim or do you all get on well with the other brands now?

I used to only use verbs, but i found that £25 for 5 disks was a bit much, so thought id try some cheaper brands.

I currently use a brand called Mirror and i can get 10 disks for £7, never had any problems with them in either of my 360's with an MS25 and a 47DJ. I think the new firmwares really help with better media detection and cheaper media.

Im using MIS Verbs right now.  The last batch was MII, but they worked fine.  Im getting a little scared to use the MII because of the quality control issue and I dont want to end up paying regular price for some cheap discs.

Is there an alternative to the Verbs with the same quality as the MIS?  I used Memorex in the past and all but the very last spindle I had worked fine.  The last spindle however gave me 5 working discs out 20 which really pissed me off and I no longer want to use them.

Aone have produced mixed results in the past and now they are REALLY screwy as they have recently changed to a manufacturer of even worse quality (not sure exactly who it is), so I definitely wouldn't trust them.  @Hellboybell, you are getting ripped off and then some on the Verbs.  SVP has had the 10 and 20 packs of DL Verbatim for around 30 pounds per 20 discs for ages.  That's not much more than the cheapo Mirror discs which you have been using (when looking at the cost per disc).  @Everybody, Sony has started outsourcing SOME of it's DL media production to MKM's home plant in Singapore (exact same as the coveted Verbatims) and when they are on sale they are actually a better deal as they come in packs of 25 versus packs of 20.

I'm currently havin some real issues with verbs I bought 30 last week from svp (they're out of 20 packs), I keep gettin opc failure when startin the burn and when they do burn they will not work on most hitachis. I'v tried them on 2 47dj's and a 59 no luck. but they work fine on  2 samsungs and 1 78. I'm seriosly considering trying another brand. anyone know anywhere else in the uk to get the 20 packs from for the same price?

Are they made in India or Singapore (check the spindle near the UPC symbol).

man, makes me wanna try haha. What burner does the guy have?

Media is all about burner + media in the right combo, Verbaltim is rank #1 with it's #1 compatible burner (and there's alot of them), however if you match the other media with it's burner you can get similar results.

i have an LG burner i picked up on sale for like 40 bucks a while back...
i can get the model number if need be.

yeah, that be cool, thanks man.
LG has 2 chipset, a model is probably better to identify them. I have pioneer, samsung, benQ, NEC, but no LG, planed to pick one up but never seems to get to it. i might get one now if my pionneer fail me with DL discs.

Not really if you are talking about longevity.  As far as getting them to be read though, I agree it can make a difference.  I just choose not to waste my time being cheap and prefer to have a media that I can use for multiple applications and not just 360 backups though.  Not to mention I would like my backups to last as long as possible.   To each their own though. wink.gif
