Problem With Iso Size Using New Splitvid Format
« on: October 16, 2007, 11:05:00 AM »

From the updated tutorial:

QUOTE(sosotiit @ Feb 26 2007, 02:07 PM) *
5-When completed, you will get a 7 651 848KB ISO ( or 7.29GB) for x360 games. If you use a version prior to 2.5 or do not activate the Splitvid then the files will be 7,395,392KB or 7.05GB. The .iso for Xbox1 will be 7,258,816KB (or 6.92GB) without splitvid.

I am getting 7,651,848 on most games, but I am consistently getting 7,651,262 on some others (Viva Pinata, Rainbow Six Vegas). I've found a few Google links saying others have seen the same thing. These rips pass all tests, but I wish I knew whether this is valid/expected result on some discs. Anybody know?

This happens using either XBC 2.6 or Schtrom360Xtract V3.3 in SplitVid mode.

Problem With Iso Size Using New Splitvid Format

the difference beween splitvid and xtreme 3 format is the addition of part of the video partition on the second layer for splitvid.

Now there are two size of video partition!!, I would guess that if check all you backup, those size 7 651 848KB  all have the same video partition and the other all have the second video partition. For the part going on the second layer, the difference between the two is around 700K which is close ??

All these are ripped using XBC 2.6.  I thought the video partition data was the same on L0 and L1, but apparently not.  I also thought the video partition data was the same on all discs, but that seems to be untrue as well.

According to the tutorial, ISOs should always be the same size when ripping games using the same method.  Maybe the tutorial just isn't current?

Here's the results of my testing:

7,835,492,352 Eternal Sonata.iso
7,835,492,352 Project Gotham Racing 4.iso
7,834,892,288 Rainbow Six Vegas.iso
7,834,892,288 Viva Pinata.iso

Eternal Sonata
265,873,408 video.iso
265,873,408 videoL0.iso
262,610,944 videoL1.iso

Project Gotham Racing 4
265,873,408 video.iso
265,873,408 videoL0.iso
262,610,944 videoL1.iso

Rainbow Six Vegas
265,873,408 video.iso
265,873,408 videoL0.iso
262,010,880 videoL1.iso

Viva Pinata
265,873,408 video.iso
265,873,408 videoL0.iso
262,010,880 videoL1.iso

I ran FC on the video layers extracted using Schtrom360Xtract V3.3.  Extracts between Eternal Sonata and Project Gotham Racing 4 match, as do the extracts between Rainbow Six Vegas and Viva Pinata.  But nothing else matches.  Even though L0 size matches on all games, FC does not.

- Why do these games have different video partition data?
- Why aren't L0 and L1 the same size on all rips?

game done xtreme 3 style (pre split-vid are all the same size 7.572.881.408 bytes) and have both video L0 and L1 on L0 (first layer).

ALthough no firmware currently uses it , splitvid also put a copy of video L1 in the same postion as it is on original disk on the second layer.

if you add the 7 572 881 408 to 262 610 944 = 7 835 492 352  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
and 7 572 881 408 to 262 010 880 = 7 834 892 288  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Why has ms started to use a second video partition (with star trek legacy)?? not sure really, and that is pretty much the way it is.

Thanks.  It's this section that is confusing:

It kind of implies that your ISO will always be 7,651,848kb when using Splitvid, which I guess you're saying isn't necessarily true.  I just wanted to make sure what I am seeing is expected behavior, and it sounds like it is.

I'm seeing people with the same question posting in other threads, so I figured I would revisit this question.

After performing many more extractions, I know that the varying file sizes are not the result of a bad rip.  In the past, the file size was absolute, and if your rips weren't all 7,395,392, something was wrong.  But now using XBC 2.6 and SplitVid format, there are two valid file sizes: 7,651,848 or 7,651,262.  Apparently there are two different but valid sizes for video L1 on 360 discs, and it just didn't come into play until we started ripping L1.

To summarize:

7,395,392 = Xtreme 3.0 rip
7,651,848 or 7,651,262 = SplitVid rip

Hope I got all that right...I'm sure somebody will correct me soon enough if I didn't.
