Xbc Pioneer Dvr-212 Sata Fails To Burn
« on: August 02, 2007, 04:18:00 PM »

XBC Pioneer dvr-212 SATA Fails to burn backups, 3 discs have been wasted using the XBC Engine to burn the backups. I am running vista. Weird , if i choose the Nero engine it works fine...

What could the issue be ?

I have the Latest dvd writer firmware.

The only thing i havent changed yet is the run as windows xp sp2 mode...

Any1 else having the same issue ?

Well its definately not a hardware problem if it burns in one program and not in the other - I'd say its something with the drivers - do you have the latest SATA drivers installed? I am not too sure, but you might need Adaptec ASPI drivers because Nero uses its own... can someone confirm?

Well I can confirm its also happening to me.

I have the same Pioneer 212 Drive and tried to burn with the XBC engine and it got stuck at 0.2%. When I retried with the Nero engine it was perfect 15min later finished and plays great.

Can someone tell me if it makes a difference ether using XBC, Nero or ImgBurn? Is one better then another?

in my opinion the best is imgburn, but honestly if it burns, it should be pretty similar with all three.

now, on XBC, you have to realize that the XBC engine is still not comfortable with all drives, so not surprising. you can use imgburn or nero.

Add another one to the list. I even tried using IgmBurn but they seem to hang up at around 90-96% and then fail when they try to finalize the disc. I also have the latest firmware (1.24) but cannt successfully burn. I even tried to edit the firmware with MCSE but I cannot get it to the drive since I have the latest drivers already. I guess I will try Nero, I did not even try that.

Also, I just tried with Nero and it failed as well. Also for some reason it does not recognize CDR's.

friffer: you should contact pio for an RMA if you are getting those kinds of problems (before you void your warranty by flashing a MCSE edited firmware, preferably.) Also, MCSE has an option you need to use to flash edited firmwares to the drives, something along the lines of "enable same flash" or something.

XBC doesn't like SATA pio at this point, if you can get it to do anything at all with it even.

Thanks cory1492. Since it does not like the pio which SATA should I use, I have a new Dell and do not have an IDE port so I am sort of forced to use SATA, I have seen people using Samsung.

Thanks

Do you understand what RMA means? Return Merchandise Authorization (usually given before you send something in for warranty repairs.)

It is XBC that does not like the SATA pio, mainly because the way it is coded probably hasn't added support for it (yet?) - it is not the SATA pio drive that sucks in this case, and it's quite likely any SATA you'd use may well not work with XBC. You mention imgburn having issues - the specific one which you mention, failing part way through a burn but not at the layer break, is usually because of crap media - but when you mentioned issues with CDR as well I do know some early 2007 batches of 112 and 212 drives had issues which required Pio to fix them.

I am using a (Jan 2007) 212d right now on a SATA card (via 6421a) at the secondary port and I haven't had a single problem with it recognizing media and such (and is one of the best $35USD drives I've ever had no less), and even with the junkiest memorex dual layer I could find locally it hasn't failed part way through any burn for me.

You may want to look for bios updates for your PC, check the bios settings, try an alternate SATA plug on your mobo (so it isn't in one of the pairs with another drive preferably) and things like that before concluding the drive is the entire issue though.
