yes i tried using it also same thing and rememeber out of 3 on my 360 1 has no trouble coping but the other 2 does  so i think we need to all compare what 360 drives are out here doing this

ok here is what i found out every take and compare notes
i have 3 360 all freeze but 1
i have tried many times same spot it freezes so what i did is layed the 360 on its side and now it plays perfect on all 3 now no freezes ok so everyone try this see if works let me know ok so we can compare our troubles
by the way i did try to back up it using both softwares like schrom 3.2 and xbc 2.5 same turn outs both ways

when i say on its side i mean flat not long ways so it helped me so far

Sorry to be so late replying i found if i had my 360 vertical the Darkness works but it takes a few attempts to get past the loading

For what its worth, my backup of The Darkness works flawlessly in my Hitachi 49 - Xeno 360

have you tried clearing the cache? and you tried a different HDD? or with the HDD detached?

my backup of the darkness works perfectly (had one DDE but the disc had a fingerprint on it) I used XBC 2.5 with a SH-D162C on a sammy ms25

EDIT: oh, and my Xbox360 is standing vertical

So which copy worked xbc2.5 or schtrom 3.2. I've tried xbc 2.4 & 2.5 with verbatims, lite on dl burner (which worked flawlessly in the past), and the kreon drive. I've notice this error on all recent back ups. I've never tried schtrom 3.2, and I just wana know do I need to switch?

Wow.  As the OP of this thread on June 28, I just have to say that I myself gave up trying to play it.  I never did reflash my box to 1.2 fast, but I had used different backup programs, different brands of DL, etc.  Nothing seemed to matter, but it was with the new firmware.  Plays fine on old.  So, who knows, I guess the dvd is possessed.. it is the darkness after all..

I think that it's a DVD model/firmware issue. I've followed this thread for a while, and that's the only thing that makes sense.


If you have gotten your system to play a backup of The Darkness, please post your DVD-Rom drive model and firmware.

Well, with the newer firmware released for the SH-D162C I decided to try and rerip my retail copy of The Darkness using the newer SplitVid option in Xbox Backup Creator and Schtrom programs.

Everything works awesome now, not one hiccup anywhere when I play my backup. This was ripped from the exact same disc that i tried countless times before with the backup always endind w/ dirty disc errors early in the game. Maybe this game used a different check than most and would crapout when it found that the video partition wasn't on the same layer depending how the firmware read it. I don't know, but now it works like all of the rest.

I used a Verbatim +DL at 2.4x on a Pioneer DVR-110D 1.41 FW. I played it in my MS-25 running Xtreme 5.3D FW. Hope this hepls anyone else who has had problems like I did.
