Problems Ripping In Wxripper
« on: April 24, 2007, 08:44:00 PM »

I have recently flashed my Hitachi 46d drive with modified firmware. I am having difficulties ripping any games with wxRipper. I get the error "Error @ 0 : Request cannot be performed because of an I/O device error." I have been trying to resolve this problem with little to no success. I managed to rip 3 gigs of "data" from it, by modifying my layout file. This did nothing because when viewed in a hex editor, it is all null bytes. This is obviously useless. I have my top of my DVD drive off for the hotswap, I am not however using a DVD movie, I am using a DL DVD that I had made for this purpose, which has over 8 gigs of data on it. This could be the problem, but I also get a magic number of 304064. I would assume this is right, because I have compared it with others' that have worked. I could be wrong. So if you could share any insight, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

I am using a TSST SH-S182D/TS-H652. It had come with my Compaq PC, it has light scribe and burns DVD's as well, if that even matters.

it seems the swap from the movie to the game is detected by the drive.

if you are using the emergency hole to swap, you must note that very few drives will work.

I do not see how that is possible, as I have the top off of the drive and swap the disc that way. I wonder what the problem could be...

I have not managed to rip any games at all. I have attempted to rip: Gears of War, Fight Night Round 3, Call of Duty 2, and TES: Oblivion. All with no success. I am running Vista though, is there any reason that Vista is bad for this?

wxripper is not doing well under vista,

maybe keep a xp partition on your drive or get a shd162c/163a

That's very disappointing to hear. Is there any way you know of to rip discs in linux, or would it be overly complicated?

Man, it's really not looking very good for me. And now I cannot seem to find my XP install disc. This really sucks. Is there any plans for wxRipper to be updated for vista, by any chance?

edit:what exactly is the current version of wxRipper?

forget any dev on wxripper (lastest is 1.2), there as not been any for a long time. Everyone is now going shd162c.

You could try XDVDMulleter that has a wxripper type function in the last release. Not sure how it works??
