Launch Xbmc From Another Process
« on: April 21, 2004, 06:09:00 PM »

I don't know if this is a question or a feature request!! :)

Is there any way to launch XBMC with parameters so it automatically plays a movie, and then when you close the movie (i.e. press A button) it exec's a given XBE file??

What I'm trying to do it set up some kind of menu system, basically like a DVD, but play DIVX's off it.

I'm guessing it would be possible to do something similar to this using just XBMC??

You would have to code the auto run in the other program to launch xbmc.
But xbmc does include autorun for most any format disk you could throw at it. Check out the settings menu  <

XBMC currently doesn't take parameters, it's something I was going to put in then forgot. :P  <

This would be a fantastic feature imo.

For some time I have wanted a menu system that listed content just for my kids.  It would show only their games, movies etc that are stored along with everything else on the HDD.

I had expected to use a dash such as Evox or MxM for the menu, but had no way of easily launching specific (.avi) movies from within the dash with just one click.

And using xbmc for the kids menu is not desirable.  They need a *very simple* list of the stuff they can access.  Really don't want a 3yr old adjusting settings in xbmc...  <shudder>
