Got A New Laptop
« on: February 04, 2007, 02:17:00 PM »

I just purchased a new laptop. I got an HP Pavilion dv6226us. I made sure that it was capable of burning dual layer dvd's. However I am having no luck burning the images to the disk and getting them to work. I burned one and put it into my 360 and it showed up as a game. But when I went to play it, I got an error. I also downloaded DVDInfoPro to see if maybe my drive was not bitsetting correctly but it shows as DVD-ROM.

Anyone know any thing about this model laptop and burner or could someone guide me in the right direction as what I need to do to get this to work if at all possible. Below is a link to HP's site with specs on the laptop. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

any firmware upgrade? or possiblity to crossflash?
You can still put a nice Pioneer 111 in a usb enclosure (all for approx 60$)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) .

Its certainly possible to rip and burn backups from a laptop... if thats your question.

I dont know about the internal DVD drive you have in your laptop, but you can easily get an external Samsung SH-D162C for ripping, and a Pioneer 111D for burning... and connect them both to your laptop via usb.

Thats what I do, and my backups rip, burn, and play flawlessly (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

good luck!

Thanxs for the quick replys. My Xbox 360 has a Samsung drive flashed with 3.0. I never upgraded from 3.0 cause it has always worked flawless for me. I just sold my desktop which had a Pioneer 111d in it. I was just wondering if hopefully I could use this drive in this lappy to burn my backups. Below is info I got from Device Manager on the DVD drive.

TSST corp CD/DVDW TS-L632D ATA Device (This is the DVD drive in my laptop)

I use Clone CD to burn my backups.

Thanxs for any help

your laptop does not have a bad burner (as compared to other slim), but you will need to try it to know. and may very well have to upgrade your x360 firmware (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) . (I know I am the same when it comes to upgrading FW). As mentionned in the worst case an external burner does the job.

What is the current stable firmware release for the samsung drive? I am not against upgrading my firmware, I have just had no problems at all with 3.0. I seriously think that this burner in this laptop will work but I have to be doing something wrong. What version of DVDInfoPro do I need to use to try to change the booktype? I downloaded the newest version but have had no luck with it. I really appreciate all the help guys. Just another reason this is the best site on the net for xbox info

Version is 5.2 and the info is available here.

You can also try imgbrun to set the booktype (which may not be needed with 5.2 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif))

Just an update. I contacted HP and they informed me that this burner is capable of setting booktype to DVD-ROM. They said I need to set that in the software I am using to burn in. Is this possible with CloneCD? Or do I need to use DVDInfo Pro? I am not familiar with DVDInfo Pro, What version is needed and could someone direct me to some instruction on what to do with the program? I sold my desktop PC which had a Pioneer 111d in it that worked flawless. Never had a problem with it. But I guess with the mobility and convience of a laptop comes this trouble. HA HA

Thanks for all the help in advance.

It seems some samsumg/toshiba do not have permanent bitsetting and that means that you have to set the booktype to DVD-ROM before every burn (or you can use software that does bitsetting everytime they do a burn like NERO).
Most drive have permanent bitsetting and the booktype is  memorized in the drive itself so you could use any software to burn with a DVD-ROM booktype.
Not 100 % sure if this one in particular is one of those not having permanent bitset, but from they told you it certainly seems they rely on the software to set the booktype (lazy them  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grr.gif) )
Imgburn next version (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) is suppose to include a software bitset function for these cases.

in the meantime, upgrade your x360 to 5.2 and you wont have to deal with this, or if you want to change it before each burn, you would be need you to do the following:
open imgburn,
be sure your burner is select in 'destination" and put in a disk of the type you want to set (+R DL),
go in Tools/Drive/Change Book Type/'Your burner Brand'
select 'change For:' to a 'DVD +R DL MEDIA' and in 'New Setting' choose DVD-ROM + hit Change
then burn

Well I followed you instructions and it worked. However the game freezes up after a few minutes and I get the dirty disk error. At least I am making some progress. Thanxs for all your help. It has been greatly appreciated.

Oh maybe I should have mentioned. I am using Vista. That may be an issue too. But thanxs bro for all you have done. I will post my results as soon as I get all the bugs worked out and a clean burn incase anyone else runs into this problem.

Vista, not sure, but I have  people with success with it.

1) Which media
and
2) How have you done the backup?
-for ss.bin which software & drive
-for game.iso which software & drive
-how was it merged

the two most common sources of problem.

Well, I thought maybe I had gotten a bad backup. So I took another game and guess what. It worked perfectly. Tried yet another and it also worked. So I must had corrupted something on the first one. All is working fine now so I can add my burner to the list of known working to backup 360 games..

Thanxs for all your help. I even like imgburn better than using clone cd.
