Problem Backing Up Gears Of War With Xbox Backup Creator
« on: January 30, 2007, 09:18:00 PM »

I have a samsung flashed with xtreme 5.2a. To do backups, I connect my 360 samsung to my SATA card and boot into Windows. I'm getting an error saying "unable to determine the current visible partition" when trying to backup Gears of War using XBC v2.3. I thought it was because I had other dvd related apps like Nero, dvd shrink etc. installed. However, after uninstalling those and restarting the pc, it still didn't work.  Please advice.

is it your first bakup or you have done some others before and they are working fine.

have you tried with Schtrom 3.1 or
if it is not working

you can try isobuster/dvdinfopro and this is the best tutorial , only in step 2 change the FF 08 01 01 for FF 08 01 11 01 as per image below

hope it helps,

Thanks sosotiit. Yes, this is my first back up. I tried Schtrom v3.0 and it also gave an error saying unable to read disk or disk was not a 360 disc. I will try v3.1 tonight. I will also try the isobuster/dvdinfopro method as well if Schtrom doesn't work.

My question is what's the deciding factor here? Why do XBC works for some but doesn't for others? I probably have one of the most common setup: Samsung ms28 flashed with Xtreme 5.2a, VIA VT6421A, Pioneer 111D burner, Windows XP.

Why does this need to be changed? What does it do? Thanks.

Hi,
Well let say that if isobuster does not work, it means the problem is most probably not  the software. It would then be your x360 drive /the flash/compatibility to your PC/something running on you PC (alcohol, anydvd...).

as for the command to be sent it is to unlock the drive, but not even sure it is still needed because I alwaus use a SH-D162C (try it with or without).

UPDATE: I turned out to be the VIA VT6421 driver that was causing all these problems. I rolled back from version 5.40A to 5.20A (downloaded from http://www.viaarena.com/Driver/VIA_RAID_V520A.zip) and was able to backup GoW using XBC.

Can somebody document this somewhere?

Thks for reporting,
is the conflict only with XBC and schtrom, or does it affect isobuster method as well?

thks, soso

It definitely affected XBC and Schtrom. I didn't get a chance to try the isobuster method.

By the way, the game plays fine. I burned using ImgBurn.
