It definitely could be the burn.  Which media are you using?

it most likely will be the burn - that is a prime example of the effects caused from a bad burn - they dont simply just give a "bad disc" error you know - if only it was that simple.

If you wish to test - read it back to your HD on pc using clone cd - the odds are it will report sector errors in the log

Sorry, once again I don't think its the burn. The loading screen comes up and runs like normal, but it will not get past here. After the song playing ends, THEN the screen locks up. I'm leaning towards reflashing my firmware and seeing if the 12x read will help, but wasn't too thrilled to open my Xbox again. I have a half dozen games that work fine, all reading at 4x on the 360 including Call of Duty 3, Madden 07, and Viva Pinata. Madden has some pretty heavy load times as well. I could try to reburn and see if that will work, but instead of wasting media, I'm going to reflash and see if there is a difference and will repost.

I'm using DVD+R-DL:RICOHJPN-D01-002 4x (Under Dynex brand name; sold at Best Buy.)

I disagree since they are far from the best media to use and can be quite variable in quality from batch to batch.  Also which country were they made in?  (Check the spindle/disc cover, ect.)

Wow, sorry for freaking out and wasting your time with the above question. I just found out about the "MS28 firmware guard" feature and will try using the 800 disc tonight and see what happens. Otherwise, I'll have to give in and get some verbatim discs. Everyone thanks for your help and I'll let you know how it goes.

Hong Kong, eh?  You got yourself one of the many faked Ricoh brands that is out there.  Authentic Ricoh produced media IS ALL MADE IN TAIWAN and as far as D/L media goes Ricoh is the most faked MID out there.

Interesting as it is sold through a Best Buy private label "Dynex"... hmm...

Anyhow, thanks for all the info. I was able to use the 800 disc to reflash to Xtreme 5.2A and now Smackdown loads up and plays perfectly fine. I'm not sure if it were the media or not, but maybe my other "coasters" weren't coasters at all and it was just the read speed affecting them? All of my backups have worked without issue; just wish I didn't pitch the 2nd burn of Smackdown so I could see if it worked or not. Oh well, it as worth the try.

I'll research some more on the discs, as I know the other Dynex DVD discs are CMC (DVD-R, same as Memorex for the most part and are junk) and Ritek for the DVD+R (which I've had great luck with for DVD backups.) I saw your thread on disc distributors and brands; this was info I always knew about and kept in mind when purchasing. Just out of curiousity, how do you know for sure that these discs aren't made in Hong Kong? I mean, how is that big retailers such as Best Buy can be buying "bootleg" DVD's by the warehouse-load?
