have you tried your sony with a verbatim media,

Ritek is not the best thing to feed a burner to establish a baseline.

My sony dru 820a burns games, movies and data discs fine and i have never updated the firmware or anything. I also use memorex media ( really ritek??) and my backups read fine. Try using DVD Decrypter for burning the images, because the drive has never given me a write error.

But why working fine for DVD movie back up

Agreed, and there is no easy answer.

For example I do not keep a tape VCR anymore,
I use my pc as vcr, then transfer it to DVD+RW and listen on my dvd. I have a +RW that I must have erased 200 times and it is still working great.

IF I keep the credits at the end of 'Without a trace', my dvd authoring program sometimes will crash, why?!?

ANyway, you will love your pioneer, great burner.

Ghettoc401,

How do you set up your DVD booktype , when using DRU 820A and DVD Decrypter

The drive sets the booktype to DVD-ROM by itself. If you burn a dvd image with nero, you might notice that there is a message in the burn window that says "automatically setting booktype to DVD-ROM" I made the mistake of using clone cd to burn my games and then they came out coasters. Once I used DVD decrypter, i never made another coaster. Here is a link to a tutorial that you can follow. Post back your results asap and make sure that you are using your DRU 820 A when you burn your backup so I can find out what is wrong with your drive.

P.S. DVD Decrypter is free so you can download it for free. There is a link in that tutorial. Just make sure you do exactly what they tell you to do and you should be fine.

You have to consider that the game system drives tend to be more fussy than the average DVD Player for reading recordable media, or have you tried playing these DVD Movie backups on your 360?  If so and they work then it is most likely something going wrong with your creation of the image while making a backup.  Either way though you should read the link in my sig as it will have you looking at your media in a whole new light.
