Hi all

I recently got a Pioneer 112D and it has successfully burned 4 backups with no problems. It's stock firmware and no other changes made, just installed, stuck a DL Verbatim in and away it went, happy as pie.

The 112D is a fantastic burner, my backed up discs actually read better than the originals!

(thanks to a little brasso (metal polish - brings discs back from the dead) and XBCr's error corrections

)

Agreed. My 112D worked fine right out of the box. Have successfully burned several games already (and they actually worked!) w/o any problems.

Jesus christ, people, these burners are shit!, i am on my 4th pioneer in a year, this latest 111d lasted 2 and a half months, they may burn well, but for how long.

In my opinion, this burner is shit, and i will never touch a pioneer ever again.

You think you are buying a good burner, remember this thread when your lazer craps out after a few months, you have been warned, follow the crowd and buy shit, or get somthing else simple.

One word for pioneer, SHIT.

By the way, i also have an LG-4163B, that is like 2 years old, still going strong and burns 360 perfect, and guess what, im keeping it.

everyone is entitled to an opinion, and you are fair enough to say it is that, an opinion.

Unfortunately, the fact that so many people are using them with success and by following the activities in the specialized forums like cdfreaks clearly demontrates that for most users it is the opposite . Not only has it remained a top burner in terms of the burn quality but also for its reliabiliity.

i am a testing/re-testing nut!!!!! i would like to add that the rpc1 firmware does something - i know it is suppose to be a region free firmware and that is all but when i have burned w/ pioneer 1.29 f/w and then ran a scan on a benq 1655 (one of the best dvd-rws to scan with) i would get a quality rating of 0 on verbatim dl media @ 4x. as soon as i upgraded to the rpc1 1.29 f/w, my quality went to 92-97 on verbatim dl media, again @ 4x.

as a refernce i have the dts-ex version of gladiator, which when you look at it can see there are no scratches on the disc, and it scored a 93 in quality in the same benq 1655 drive, being tested in the same manner. so i would definately recomend the 1.29 rpc1 f/w over the pioneer 1.29 f/w

Roden - sorry to hear about your issues w/ the drives. i have personally used just about every manf out there and have little to no failure rate with them. in fact the last burner that died on me was a "fast" 8x4x32 yamaha scsi cd-rw that ran me $300 back in the day...

do any other drives fail you whether hard drive or optical or do you get random reboots on your machine? if you keep having failures maybe look at your computer power supply as a lot of failing drives could mean an issue with the psu - not keeping V where they need to be.

Mine is a 111 not a 111D, whats the difference?
I can't see a great deal on pioneers site comparison,the 111 still burns DL discs, just waiting for my 360 to come back from having its chip fitted so i can start testing my backups.

While i'm here can someone point me in the direction of a good external drive for use with wxripper, or a relevent thread.............

I bought a refurbished Pioneer 110 d 2 years ago and have burned over 1000 discs with no more than 5 or 6 bad burns, mainly due to me using the computer while trying to burn a game. Single layer or Dual layer. This burner has been the best since my first burner. It was a 4 x External cdrw by HP. Cost Damn near $300 when it was new.

I think there is no difrence but just te be sure before im going to buy one,
is there any difrence between, Pioneer DVR-112DBK or Pioneer DVR-112D.
I think they BK stands for black?

Well I just wanted to add my experience here,

I got a DVR 212d (sata) and burned 2 discs. Both of them work fine and I was able to finish the first game without any real problems. The issue I am having is when running a disc quality check with nero's cd/dvd tool I end up with a quality score of zero. Its 99 up until about 50% ( I guess first layer) and then drops down to zero and lists a big number of errors. I wonder what is happening here? Upgraded to latest firmware (1.22) and using imgburn , anyone else having similar problems?

Forgot to add , this is on verbatim media burned at 2.4x , connected to an nforce 4 board.
