Do I Have To Flash Pioneer Dvr-111d To Set Book Type?
« on: January 10, 2007, 08:27:00 AM »

Everytime I create a back up for my 360 I get the "pleas insert this game into an XBOX 360" so i recently purchased a Pioneer DVR-111D because I read from many posts that this was an excellent burner.  I installed the Pionee and I am still getting the same erroe.  I have not updated the Pioneer's bios becasue I did not think I had to to automatically set book type.  Am I wrong, do I am to flash the drive?  I am not sure why I am still getting this error as the back up process "seems" to work flawlessly (using SAMSUNG SH-D162C with Kreon firmware, Schtrom to rip DVD, NME aSSociat0r  to convert and ImgBurn to burn on my Pioneer with Verbatim DVD+R DL, and I have NME 360 chip installed).

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

By default the pionner will give you the correct booktype (DVD_ROM). You can always check it in imgburn, dvdinforpo or nero cd-dvd speed (all freeware I believe).

If you do not have a single working backup I am tempted to look a the NME part of it.
- is it active?  (there is a led that goes off when it detects a backup???)

Thanks sosotiit, yes it is active.  The guy who installed the chip for me put in a backup after install (which I saw) and it booted up just fine so I am pretty sure the chip is working and active.

As mentioned above don't touch anything as the Pioneer will set the booktype to DVD-ROM for you right out of the box.

Not the expert on NMe, but I think that the power led is going off to tell when it detects a backup (not always installed unfortunately).
If not, and the installer is not too far, test it with him original and your backup.
If you do that plse let us know (curious on this  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) )

How many games have you tried?

The rest seems pretty good.

Regardless of booktype, do I need to flash the Pioneer drive to update the firmware?  I have not touched the burner and it is just using hte firmware that it came with.

For the rest of the firmware feature, if it is 1.23 or above, it should be OK. If not you can maybe bring it at least to that.
or you may want to try 1.29 (no sure it would make a big change from 1.23)

Probably won't.  I would definitely be looking at the media, the backup process and the firmware revision on your particular 360 drive first.  BTW did you set the layerbreak before burning?

Yes I did set the layerbreak in Imgburn so I think that should be covered and I have only been using Verbatim media (which I understand are one of, if not the, best).  jesterrace777 just to clarify, I am using a mod chip and I did not think I had to update the firmware version on my 360, am I wrong?  I have not checked what firware is on my XBOX.

Sorry, I missed that you chipped your drive.  You are right you don't need to update the firmware.

Hi Flagg999,

I am still concerned that you have two major sources of uncertainty in what you do.

First , the NME part
and second, the backup part.

As mentionned before, maybe a test with  the installer of your chip might be good .

or at least a friend test to confirm which part is not doing it for you.
The NME image is functional with drives using firmware hack (uwith ssmerger I sometimes apply the nme patch by mistake and the backup still work fine (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) )
Since you need to know where is the problem, find a friend that has a working setup. Bring your original and associated backup to test them on his X360. If it does work your images are OK.

other options:
-Have you ever tried using xbcreator ( i doubt it will make a difference)
-Before running associat0r, run the stealth check of schtrom (or xbcr) to be sure all pieces are there.

Hope you will be able to resolve this,

rgds,soso

sosotiit,

sorry for the noob question but what do you mean by "Before running associat0r, run the stealth check of schtrom (or xbcr) to be sure all pieces are there"

I will try and get over to the guy who installed my chip and test the backups I have made on his system and see if that tells me anything.

Thanks

Thanks, I followed the Dangerous Brothers link but I have a couple questions:

1) Which firmware version is the best to try?
2) Is there a guide for flashing?  The only drive I have flashed is my Samsung but I used an app that did it automatically.  I am a little scared to screw it up and I can not find a tutorial anywher that I have looked.

Thanks
