Please Help, I'm Making Coasters!
« on: January 08, 2007, 10:09:00 AM »

Hi all,
here are my stats:

MS28 (1 week old)
xtreme 5.2c

PC:
samsung SH-D162C flashed with kreon 0.81 (1 week old)
LG GSA-H22N (1 week old)

Media used:
RiDATA 4X 8.5GB DVD-R Dual Layer
Verbatim Verbatim 2.4X 8.5GB DVD+R Dual Layer

Program used:
Xbox Backup Creator v2.3

Burning software:
Clonecd (not sure which version, but it suports dual layers)

Problem:
Using the default settings in XBC, I am able to dump the file to my pc as an ISO.
Afterwards, I am able to burn the iso image with clonecd (write from file - point to ISO).
At first I was using ridata (burning at 4/2.4/1) and went through 4 coasters (dirty disk) before moving onto verbatim.
But now the same thing is happening with the Verbatims at 2.4x.
I have yet to make a good disk.
Please note, that the 360 was modded by a friend and before I left, we tested out verbatims (his own burns) and they worked fine.
Either I am not dumping the files incorrectly or my burner is no good?
Any ideas guys???

TIA!

are the originals playing fine?

Also might try a burn with imgburn @4X or 2.4X. (one version of clonecd had an issue from what i have read)
I would also bring a backup (and the original) to test on a x360 that as played a backup before, if it does not work then you can be sure it is the disk.

sosotiit,
yup, originals are playing fine.
I'm going to try imgburn.  Do you know which version of clonecd is not working, or for  that matter, which version works for you?
How are u dumping originals then burning them?  Just wondering how the better half is doing.  tongue.gif

You didn't seem to mention whether you were setting the layer break (in a  .dvd file, if you are using CloneCD).   Perhaps that's where the problem lies?

The .dvd file should specify a layer break of 1913760 and point to your created ISO, and you then load that .dvd file in CloneCD.

Alchemyst,
sorry for being such a newb, but how do I specify the layer breaks?
All ive been doing is burning the file as soon as it is dumped, no layer break settings or anything else for that matter.
OMG...i guess I was missing a critical step in the process?

LayerBreak=1913760
on the first line.

If you used the .000/.iso file directly with clonecd, it might be your problem.

With imgburn, layerbreak setting is in the tutorial mentionned above.

Absolutely, you don't set a layer break and it doesn't matter how you burn it, IT WON'T WORK!!!!!!!.  I'm partial to the IMG Burn method myself.  It's a very easy freeware program to find.  Once installed open it up and go to the "Tools" tab and then select settings.  After selecting settings select the "Write" tab and on the right hand side you should see an option to set the L0 layer break, select it and enter in 1913760 and then select okay.

You know what, I just noticed.
After creating the ISO image with XBC, a dvd file is also included.
Is this a custom file that XBC creates with the necessary layer break?

yes and that is the file (the xxxx.dvd) you need to call in cloneCD or it will not work.
but just like jesterrace777 I much prefer IMGburn.

Argh......are you kidding me?  Success!!!
The verbatims burned without any issues and play fine.
While the ridatas errored out in IMGburn (cannot set the layer break position when burning dvd-r dl media in DAO mode).
I didn't realize until now that the Ridata I bought were DVD-R DL and the Verbatim are DVD+R DL.  Are 360s only good with DVD+RL DL?

Are there any known compatability issues with IMGburn and 360 games?  Do they all burn ok?
Lastly, is setting the layer break the only thing you will ever need to set?

Thanks allot guys, you really saved me from making more coasters..... tongue.gif

D/L DVD-R are supposedly compatible with the latest Samsung drive and firmware revision but you have to go through a few steps first.  Either way, not worth it as D/L DVD-R are almost always more expensive.  D/L DVD+R on the other hand are more compatible.  As for Verbatim versus Ritek/Ridata, well I recommend you take a gander at the first link in my sig.

Jesterace,
thanks for the info!
I think i'll stick with the dvd+r dl and avoid all the hassle.
Will these settings work with all games?  Are there any games that have any issues?
Just trying to avoid making anymore coasters... uhh.gif

I think there are 1 or 2 titles where you have to do something extra but I can't remember their names off hand.

Hmm...that could get pricey if u keep making coasters.
There should be a stickey with a list of compatible games...

Let's add that to the 'to do' list... tongue.gif
