Sometimes you can try the following:
disconnecting it completely from your box
boot up in safe mode
Go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware Tab -> Device Manager button
Click on View | Show hidden devices
Remove all your CD/DVD Roms.
Reboot (still with things disconnected).
Shut down
Hook up your new drive.

Windows unfortunately gives problems like that.

It is a known prob with the sh-d162c , I would not say common, in fact pretty rare.

I some cases people need to bring the drive to another PC to flash.
Then it works fine in original PC!!!

Good thinking  smile.gif  to try it in another PC.

just taking a shot in the dark, but do you have all the updates, SP2, and all that?

im fully up to date on my winxp and it works, prolly unreated, but just thought id throw it in...

since you seem to have a usb2 enclosure, have you tried it usb2 with your main PC.

Well my main pc doesn't have any usb 2.0 ports. But I know it does work that way with my laptop. LMAO this is like changing the oil in a car and not being able to get the drain plug out. Something that is supposed to be and always has been so simple has turned into a pain in the ass... Atleast I can laugh at it I guess  jester.gif
