Pioneer 111d Firmware For Bitsetting Sl Dvd+r
« on: January 05, 2007, 12:17:00 PM »

Wasn't sure where to post this, but this seemed like a more logical place.

Is there a firmware for the pioneer 111D that auto booktypes single layer dvd+r's instead of crossflashing to 111L. I have tried finding info on TDB 1.23 but I could not find out what features it has over stock.

Thanks in advance!

Good deal, I will go with TDB 1.23. I just wasn't sure if it did single layer dvd's.
Much obliged for the quick reply.

i bought yesterday pioneer dvr-111d. but i cannt use any flashing program to update the firmware of 111d.

i even got v8.19 of buffalo release with TDB Flasher with Kernel. but eve this cannt update my flash of 111d
i also read on the support page of pioneer that the 111d-drive needs to be in Master and with no ther device connected on the same ide-cable
CODE
Try moving it to the second IDE port, set the drive to Master (MA) and do not have any other drive at all connected on that IDE cable, that is daisy chained.
but neither that helps me. pioneer-support suggests to do the update in DOS, but how can i fit the flash-file (not the updater) that is 1.7mb on a floppy?

111d is perfeclty recognized in bios as MASTER on SECONDARY IDE (it was first as SLAVE on PRIMARY IDE, but this also didnt work), also this is good recognized by DEVICE MANAGEMENT in windows.
i use win server 2003. could this be the trouble?

the error i get is:
ODD firmware update utility ver2.37a
availble target is not found

plz, help me to flash my 111d. becaus as it is now i cannt set the booktype to ROM

well, now is my 111d-drive flashed with buffalo v8.19 with flasher and kernel, but still i cannt change the bit-setting in the dvdinfopro to dvd-rom.
i get error from dvd info pro... pioneers drive do not support bitsetting

and i also still cant update the fw of 111d to v1.29 with the right bitsetting as i read that in earlier responses in this topic. drive is now connected as SLAVE on SECONDARY IDE

hi turq, this is what i did - i downloaded all the firmwares related to my 111D, that is, for 111D, i d/l versions 1.06, 1.23.  for 111L, i d/l versions 8.19, 8.29, depending on whether your drive is internal or external, d/l 'int' or 'ext' respectively.

my drive was originally v 1.23.  when i want to crossflash to 111L, i will first flashed to 111L ver 8.19 int.  ( my drive is internal ).  then i re-booted the PC.  afterthat, i flashed to 111L ver 8.29 int.  with this version of firmware, even if dvdinfopro does not allow bitsetting ( pioneer does not allow that ), after you burnt dvd+r dl and dvd+r, they are automatically set to dvd-rom.  before you burn them, they are not dvd-rom.

alternatively, if you want to revert back to 111D, what i did was i first flashed to 111D ver 1.06 int.  then i re-booted the PC.  afterthat, i flashed to TDB ver 1.23 int.  i read somewhere that somehow TDB ver 1.29 or original pioneer ver 1.29 got problem with xbox360 backups, i may be wrong, but ver 1.23 works fine for me.

hope these ideas helps.....  cheers!

Just to give some clarification here.  Dangerous Brothers firmware DOES NOT Autoset the booktype to DVD-ROM for you.  The only way to do that is to get one of the Buffalo firmwares (8.xx) revisions on your drive.  You only get the auto booktype set for D/L with the stock and DB firmwares.  Incidentally I have TDB V1.29 firmware and it works fine although I have also heard that it can cause complications for some people.

jesterrace... now i got v8.19 INT (Buffalo-Internal) from TDB on my 111d. in imgburn is the drive recognized as pioneer dvr-111d which is correct. but still in in dvd info pro i cannt set the booktype in to -ROM

i flashed my 111d which first was a virgin drive. but it is not anymore, because it is flashed with buffalo-fw

iu just wonder how to check whether i got the right book-type with my 111d?

guys, i am still stucked with the problem that i cannt update the fw of 111d
now i got v8.19int of buffalo-release and if i want to update to v8.20int i still get the error:
target is not available

i even tried in DOS, in SAFE mode, but no way to update it. i even downgraded to version 1.06 with kernel, but after this also i coudnt update directly to v8.29 of buffalo. no matter what and how i try, i always get the same error
my next challenge is thus updating to version 8.29 of 111d of buffalo fw

i tried and burnt gears of war on a ritek-d01-00 disk.
i can start and play the game (i am playing the tut), while i tried the same game and the same disk with my old plextor px-716a without any luck to play

Go with the V1.29 firmware update.  Is there any particular reason why you are obsessed with DVD+R for single layer?  Also Ritek would definitely not be my first choice for media.

hi turq, after you unzipped the buffalo's fw, you would have 2 files inside a folder right?  you ran that application file to update from 8.19 to 8.29 right?  it will run but as a DOS command box within Windows.  you cannot just flash from 1.06 -> 8.2x.  you got to progressively flash from 1.06 -> 8.19 because these 2 fw is the only ones that are with this *., which means TDB Flasher w/Kernel.  ater you flash to either of this 2 fw, then you can upgrade as a 111D or 111L but not crossflash, that means to say - (111D)1.06*->1.19->8.19->1.23->8.25->1.29->8.29, all under 111D labels and (111L)8.19*->8.26->8.29.

you will never be able to bitset pioneer's drive in dvdinfopro or whatever software, you will see all media as they are and not dvd-rom until you burn them and only after you burn them, will you see dvd-rom inside dvdinfopro.  i tried dvd+rw, it cannot be set to dvd-rom though, even with fw modded to buffalo's.  cheers!

I thought there was no need to flash the 111d because it already set it correctly by default?

yup you are right prplehz but i think it's for DL media because i tried on dvd+r media, i could not get it to dvd-rom, even with TDB 1.23 fw.  but when i crossflashed to 111L 8.29int fw, dvd+r went to dvd-rom straight after burning.  i got no luck with both dvd+rw and dvd-rw.  that's what i got, cheers.

That is correct.  The late model Pioneer drives will all set the booktype to DVD-ROM for you right out of the box BUT ONLY ON D/L DVD+R DISCS!!!!!!!!!  Only the Buffalo firmwares will allow you to set the booktype to DVD-ROM on the Pioneer drives.  Incidentally, I just tested the Dangerous Brothers V1.29 firmware and can confirm that it won't set the booktype to DVD-ROM for you on a single layer DVD+R disc.  As for booktype setting on RW discs to my knowledge it can't be done.
